Drag Racing Tech - passing tech with pro star lugs?

OK, so with the mosser axles on my 9', i have 3in long wheels studs. With my 15x10 prostar, and my 5/16th spacers, there is only about 3/4 inch of threads remaining, and those will not come all the way through a set of open end, long shank lugs nuts. Now, if i remove the spacers, and beat the shit out of my fender well, there is still not gong to be enough stud with the prostars.

whats the trick?

i could go with the 4" 5/8ths studs, but i dont think the long shank lugs will work with them.


I did cut the bump stop brakets out, but the tire still rubs pretty bad even with that done with no spacer.

Mine don't stick out past the lugs and I've never had problems through tech......is that a rule?

The rule is that the studs have to protrude into the hex portion of the lugnut equal to the diameter of the stud. So for example if the stud is 3/8" diameter it has to go into the hex portion at least that far. Hope this helps.

You can buy ARP studs that are long enough that still use the same lugs. I believe mine are 1/2"x3 1/2" long and stick out a good bit past the open end. I'm running the 15"x10" prostar with 28"X10.5" ET drags without a spacer and Strange brakes. I cut out some of the bump stop and took a big hammer to whatever else was in the way.

So for example if the stud is 3/8" diameter it has to go into the hex portion at least that far.

That's much better than having to protude... which would be tough considering all of my Prostar nuts are closed-ended.

Not gonna pass tech at any legitimate racing sanction. Probably never have a problem at any locally ran tracks though!

Because of the closed lugs?

I'm all for being safe (and legal), I just want to know what it is that I need to do.
If the studs that came with this S60 are too short, I'd rather get them upgraded than have one break on me.
(I don't run spacers on the rear)

I know at the LSx shootout not this year but last year they made me remove a lug....only to show i DID have ARP studs...but they weren't long enough like the OP said.

I went with stock diamater 3.5" long ones on all four corners now.

Correct. They want to see the stud through the lugnut. So closed ended may not pass tech for a sanctioned event but for a local TnT night its probably ok.

Sorry I used the wrong word when I said protrude. But yes they have to go at least half way into the hex portion.

I had prostars with 5/16 spacers and 3.25" arp studs and they were long enough to be into the hex the diameter of the stud. My track doesn't check but i wanted to be safe so i just did it.

And btw 5/8 studs you don't use shank style lugs. The prostars are set up for 5/8 you just put a washer and a big nut on that doesn't go into the hole. The shank style fills that gap for the 5/8 hole with the stock 1/2" stud. But 5/8" is for "race cars" in my eyes cause there can't be many street wheels with 5/8 holes. So your stuck with drag wheels.

Off Summitt they are "ARP 100-7713"

if you have closed end they may make you remove one to check.
basically the stud has to stick out 12mm past the washer.
or 1/2 for 1/2 studs
