New best!! Stock cubic inch Thunder Racing Camaro SS 10.68 @ 124 MPH !!
We had some awesome race weather again for Florida this weekend, -368 DA. For Florida it don't get much better!! A local track was having a Pro Mod shootout and a bracket race. Unfortunately at the bracket race they combined the Pro and Super Pro classes into one and called it "Combo". So basically if you are a footbrake racer like me you would have to race against anything, dragster/door car guys with delay boxes etc. It don't bother me really, I just wanna race!!
The car picked up right where it left off last weekend when I ran a new best. I pull the car right off the trailer and made 2 passes, I went back to back 10.82 Et's
I made some computer adjustments trying to squeeze a little more out of the car and was messing with tire psi and shock settings.
I made another time-run pass and turned a 10.80, only .01 off my best ET. I went back to the pits made some more adjustments I went +2 more clicks to the right rear and +1 click to the left rear.
4th run and all I can say is... HOLY COW!!!
60'...1.397
330...4.309
1/8...6.753
MOH...100.05
1000...8.884
1/4...10.684
MPH...124.30
WOOHOO! 1.39 60'!!
and a new best 10.68 @ 124!!
I got back out there backed it up with another 10.68 run..
60'...1.406
330...4.319
1/8...6.760
MOH...100.26
1000...8.887
1/4...10.683
MPH...124.74
After those 2 runs I was like a pig in ****.
Now it was time for eliminations to start. I dialed-in a 10.67 but ran a 10.71 in the 1st round, my opponent went .04 also but he got the advantage on the tree. I bought back in for 2nd round and changed my dial-in to a 10.69, I ran a 10.70 and won. In the 3rd round I kept the 10.69 dial-in and ran a 10.71 but I redlighted with a -.010
On my last run with the 10.70 I cut another 1.40 60', I got a feeling its the reason I redlighted. The car is launching faster now and I think my roll out speed is quicker than I'm used to. I am going to have to get some more test and tune runs in to get used to the car and tree with these settings.
Anyway I am having a total blast, the car is very consistant and running 10.70's all day with a stock cube 346 LS1!
Saturday the SS weighed in at 3020 and I weighed in at 210(ugh I need to start working out again) Anyway my race weight was 3230 lbs.
Here are the specs on my motor:
Stock 5.7 LS1 block
stock crank
stock rods
Diamond Pistons
ARP bolts
Thunder Racing 5.3 GTP Stage II Heads /w Comp double springs
Thunder Racing 230/224 -111 lsa cam

Stock LS6 intake
custom K&N FIPK mod

Yea the weather was awesome, when I was racing it was:
Temp= 54*
Dew= 50*
Baro Pres= 30.09
I got -300 on the DA, is that right?
What made is so cold was the wind chill, the temp during the day was mid-low 50's, even 60's at some points. I think over night it got down to like 48* though

Thanks Guys!
You know I used to see you guys running 10's NA with stock bottom ends when I was running 11.80's and I was like how are they doing it? I'll tell ya, keep on racing and tuning and tweaking. I put my car on a diet and got my race weight down to 3230 lbs, Stock I was over 3600 lbs. Everyone knows that weight reduction helps ET. The other thing is the weather. We've been waiting all year for a negative or even a 0 DA race day. I know my car isn't going to run these numbers during the spring/summer when we race in 90* weather. The other thing is tuning your suspension for the launch. I've spent ALOT of time getting my suspension just right, and depending on which track I race at and how they prepped it, I make adjustments right there. On Saturday in the afternoon all the big block guys were having traction problems, I was still cutting 1.400 60's.
My suspension:
BMR Boxed Subframes
LG HD Torque Arm
BMR LCA Relo Brackets
Madman LCA
Madman PHR
QA1 Drag Shocks Front/Rear
QA1 Front Drag Springs
Stock Rear Springs
Stock Rear Sway Bar (The Wolfe is on the way)
The other thing that is a big help is being able to LS1Edit the car yourself and being able to make changes at the track. I've also spent alot of time learning the PCM, and I still don't know everything. The last part of my success is Thunder Racing. I have been racing this motor hard all year and it has been awesome. I know there are new heads and new cams out there and I'm sure I could install them and really hual ***, but I'm going to stick with my proven setup probably for atleast another year. My big thing is bracket racing, reliability and consistancy is the most important thing to me.
Moose: The car weighed in at 3020 on the scales. I usually race with about 2-3 gallons of gas in the car. I only run VP Fuels 103 Unleaded Motorsports.

Yup, at the top of this thread there is a link to a video. The 4th run in the video is my 1.39 60' with a 10.68, the next run in the video against the dragster is 1.40 60' with a 10.71 et, The weather got warmer since it was the afternoon, everyone was running over their dial-in. I ran a 10.70 and another 10.71 in the next 2 rounds, I didn't bother to download the video since my DV camera can't focus at night, it looks like the Blair Witch drag racing project hehe.

Congrats Lee on your new times. You are flying!
Sweet vids. It is hard to run the dragsters, they come on fast at the top end. I always dail dead on when I have to run them. Better to run it out the back door than try to get on the brakes at the top end.
Good luck the rest of the winter racing. I will back back at the track on Jan 3rd. Than I hope to have the new killer Thunder Racing motor back in the Hot rod sometime in Jan!

Outstanding job. Your engine set up is about the same setup that I have quoted to me from T/R.
I have a 1 question. You are running stock injectors and stock fuel system? 2002 has what 26lbs injectors? That is awesome.
I am sure you have dyno'd your set up, what did your car pull.
Thanks
David
