Default 82' Imapa Needs a New Engine!

I have an 82' impala thats in need of a new heart. its 267 is old and tired. Ive been thinking of swapping in either a 4.8 or a 5.3 into her. my goals are daily driveability and good fuel economy. For simplicity sake however i was wanting to go carbed for this set up. running edelbrocks intake and MSD's box with a holley 650 vacuumed secondary.

my question is to all of you is what route should i take ? which engine should i go for, and which setup would work best for what i need

The 5.3 has more potential in stock form, but either the 4.8 or 5.3 will suit your car quite nicely.

thats what ive heard and it makes sense. my goals tho arent all power. i Need fuel efficiency. now if the different is going to be minimal (1-2 mpg) between the 4.8 and the 5.3 then of course ill go with the 5.3. what mpg do you think those engines would have in carbed form compared to efi ?

i should of mentioned earlier that i have a 700r4. what would be needed to make that work with either engine ? i had read somewhere that you need a spacer or something like that ?
