Need Help: Alternators keep dyeing???
OK so I have a big problem I keep killing alternators. I have killed 9 in 6 months. So far I replaced the exciter wire, postive battery cable. I am sick and tired of changing alternators what could be the problem. I was good for about 3 months with and orielly new alternator and a new exciter wire. I did a burnout 2 weeks ago and it died during that. I have noticed that with this new alternator that the alternator will die while at WOT but come back. I need to figure this out asap as I can't trust the car as of know. Thanks for the help somebody please help me out.

Check your PowerSteering pump and hoses for leaks. My PS pressure hose was leaking on top of the alternator causing 4 of them to fry and I didn't realize it was the hose until it finally ruptured all over the alternator and the cars voltage dropped right after it happened...............

as Dmoney said check for a lead of powersteering fluid to the alternator first
I had that + my fix was a bigger alternator I think wich was from a 5.3 or 6.0 engine that the shop fixed slightly bigger but he made it fot and the problem was gone
I always had the amp drop to below 13 A after the car is warmed up or running for a while and hot untill he put that alternator.
