I'm doing a LS1 swap into my '70 Porsche 911 and I'm looking for a SoCal resource to find a low mileage <50,000 engine that I can drop into the car and go. I don't need a trans with it, or a harness, but I do need all of the sensors/injectors/intake/tb.

I don't need the accessory drive either, except for alternator.

I'd prefer one that I can just use off the crate, and rebuild in the future once the rest of the car is done.

Looking to spend ~1500-2000 depending on documentation/miles.

Thanks!

I always see a bunch on e-bay

The ones on ebay usually are higher mileage examples, and have transmissions. Since it's going in a 911, I don't need the transmission, and I sure don't need to pay for the extra shipping.

Plus, $3500ish seems high for ~80k miles, with a 4L60E

It's going to be difficult to find a clean LS1 with less than 50k miles on it. Considering they haven't been made since '04... And in my opinion, 80k miles on a well-maintained LS1 is nothing. Yeah, 3500 for a LS1/4L60E is high, it would be resonable if it was a T56. I wouldn't pay more than 2500 for a LS1/4L60E.

Craigslist is another place to check. Sometimes you can find good engines here on LS1tech in the LSx classifieds.

I'd also consider a LQ4/9 if I were you. They are cheaper and easier to come by.

I check the classifieds and CL daily. I'm worried about the extra 80lb over the back of the car, since they're already ass heavy and like 65/35 weight distribution.

What would be the general consensus on a used motor that was rebuilt stock 15k ago, but had 2-3 bottles of nitrous run through it @ 100shot, wet.

There is one in the classifieds like that, I might be able to work him down knowing that.. plus it's been for sale for a while.

But my instinct tells me thats a can of worms.

It's more like 88...
My opinion on the matter is NEVER buy a modified/boosted/sprayed motor. Try to find the most stockest of stock motors you can find, as clean as you can find it, that will give you some indication that it wasn't abused.
Always buy a stock motor and modify it yourself.

that's my impression. What's the upper limit as far as miles for an engine I could drop in with out worring about oil consumption and needing a rebuild in a few thousand miles?

I'd say anything under 100k that looks to be well maintained is an option. Also some times oil consumption in a LS1 is due to a fualt in the PCV system and a new hose or a new pcv valve can fix it. Find an engine, check it for leaks, damage, etc., perform a compression and leak down test, then take it if it all checks out.
