Default Aftermarket Water temp sensor question

I bought a spek water temp gauge that came with a sensor that goes into a water jacket. Problem is that the sensor threading is too small to fit into the head and I can't find an adapter because it's just barely too small. Does anyone know if water temp sensors are universal, I was thinking about splicing a factory sensor into the gauge instead of using the aftermarket one so that I can just screw it right in.

Just so everyone knows, after a lot of hunting I found an adapter sold by autometer part # 2277 that adapts aftermarket temp sensors into the plug on the passenger side rear of the car. Ordered it today, hope this helps anyone with this same problem!

Yeah, be prepared for that not to work either. Mine didn't.

I'm going back about 4 years since I put in my autometer electric gauge, but one of those is what is needed. I THINK it was the M12x1.5 but don't hold me to it. I can say the one you need has a very thin wall so do not overtorque it otherwise it will crack.

I had to enlarge the inner diameter a little for my sensor probe to go in all of the way.
