took some vids need help

took some vids need help to put files into windows movie maker i go to "import video" i click on the file i want and it gives me this message
D:\VIDEO\100SSMOV\SMOV0017.AVI could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box.
^i have no clue what check box its talking about and i tried to DL a codec pack for windows xp. the vids dont work in quicktime or windows media player either, i just get the audio. any help?? i really want to put these vids up.
