So im sitting at a red light on my way to drop some movies off at blockbuster when i start to smell this really strong burning plastic smell. At first i thought it was something outside burning until i got to blockbuster and started smelling it again. Looked under the car and sure enough there is a walmart bag stuck to my y-pipe and mostly melted to it. Pulled off what i could but the majority of it is still stuck there ready to offend my nasal passages everytime i drive the car. Hoping this thing burns off quickly, anyone else have similar experiences?

I happen to me a couple of months ago. You just have to let it burn off. It took me about a week and a half of driving it everyday for the smell to go away.

ran over either a jacket/plastic garbage bag today. watched in my rearview and it didn't come out, so i just swerved violently back and forth until it fell off to avoid this. glad it came off!

Yeah it happened to me the day after my headers went on and an ice bag stuck on my Y-pipe after the cats. No lie i smelled it for a couple weeks and you can still see where it was. A Wal-Mart bag is thinner so hopefully it will burn off quicker.

Plastic bags scare the shit out of me.

I'll drive on the sidewalk to avoid them because I can't stand the toxic fumes.

i think half of us have had the red battery terminal cover come off and burn on the headers... stinky but it burns off

i had this happen to me a couple weeks ago! Except it was thicker than a walmart bag, it was a big piece of plastic that a wheel was wrapped in. It got stuck under my car in my garage somehow? I drove it for about 2 days and i kept smelling this terrible smell like something electrical or plastic was burning. I was kind of worried for a day but then i noticed it hanging from underneath my car when i was going to get in. Now the end of my collector is covered in burnt/melted plastic and i smell it everytime i drive my car for the last 2 weeks. Its not as bad as it was in the begining but you can definitley smell it.

Once a little kittens head was wedged in between my driveshaft. Couldn't pull it out so I had to crush its skull with pliers.... Then pull it out..

Poor kitty

Happens all the time to me on my Grand Prix. The exhaust hangs low and has plenty of things for a bag to get caught on (hangers, clamps, ect) so I'm always picking up plastic bags. Smells horrible and leaves a nasty burnt plastic residue on your exhaust.

I hope it cleanly burns off and leaves no residue on my y-pipe ill be pissed if it does.

Never happend to me before, but I would try jacking the car up and using a torch and long screwdriver to scrape that shit off. Im not sure how long I could handle that smell on my damn exhaust.

Yeah, I would let it cool then get under there and try to get rid of it. Just get some steel wool or something and scrub away! lol

Had one snag my antenna on the Interstate one time, but it definitely doesn't top that mattress, wow.

Not really exhaust, but a while back some cats crawled into my buddies Intrigue's engine bay on a winter day during school. Came out from football practice, had no idea the cats were there, and started it up. Needless to say there was a lot of noise, and two cats, one of them missing a big strip of fur, ran out from under the car and darted towards a house.

I wish I would have taken a picture, but the serpentine belt snapped and the whole engine was covered with hair. The cats didn't get hurt (I think)....but it made a good story!

Now I know to stay away from mattress and not even think about driving over one.

The funny thing is on the mattress story is that the driver had no idea what was going on, took it to that mechanics shop, and said "there is a slight shimmy when driving my car, can you check it out?"

A slight shimmy... unbelievable lol.

I have a gravel driveway with cows that go across it, and sometimes it is impossible to dodge all of the.... cow leavings.... and it can get tossed on the exhaust pipes. Now let me tell you about a bad smell lol.

I had a friend hit a deer once one of the the legs got stuck under his car. Smelt considerably worst than a bag. he actually got out and puked. it was the most disgusting smell i have ever smelled in my life.:barf:

I mistakenly ran over an already dead deer once in my 96 lincoln town car. I dragged it for about half a mile. The car smelled horrible , even on the inside for about a week.

& LOL at the mattress guy.

been there and done that with the walmart plastic bag. go to a muffler shop or if u have a torch u can do it ur self. get the torch and burn the plastic off. it will take a while if u dont. i was smelling mine for weeks. It took only a couple of minutes and everything was like new again.

So the memory foam company is right, coil spring mattresses do suck!

I never hit any bags but I did hit a few dead carcasses, and once ran over a wheel barrow wheel/tire. There was traffic so I didnt see it until it was too late, obviously every other vehicle was quite a bit higher than mine since it got wedged under my car. I had to pull over and jack the car up to get the stupid thing out of there, luckily no damage though.

Yes had that happen once. Omg it's awful. Use some simple green and a brush to get it off. I really don't think those plastic fumes are super healthy for you.
