what is the difference in ls6 engines and ls1? are the parts interchangeable

The ls6 basically has the same heads as an 01-02 ls1 they just flow alittle better, the ls6 block is apprently 10% stronger than the ls1 block, the ls6 has a slightly bigger cam over the ls1 cam. also the ls6 intake is also an upgrade over the ls1

LS6 heads are not the same heads on a 01-02 LS1. The casting is completely different as well as combustion chambers and valves.
The differences in the LS6 to a LS1 are that the LS6 has vents between each cylinder to help eliminate back pressure in the cylinders. The block is a different casting all together and the metal composition is a bit different which is why LS6 blocks are shiny. The RULE of THUMB for LS1 and LS6 blocks is if you are going FORCED INDUCTION the LS1 block is the better choice.
The LS6 uses 243 casting heads which increase compression to 10.5 instead of the 10.1 of the LS1 and have sodium filled valves. However the heads are interchangeable with no modifications.
The LS6 cam is also slightly larger but still smaller than most all aftermarket LS1 cams.
The only two things that were found on the LS1 that were LS6 design are.
1. some 2002 and later LS1 blocks actually used the LS6 casting block
2. in 2001 ALL LS1s began using the LS6 intake, however cam size was reduced to keep HP exactly the same.
The HP gain of the LS6 over the LS1 is made threw a different CAM and HEADS alone. The different block really does not allow for more HP but does help for high RPM applications.

This is also incorrect. Both are 5.7 liter (346ci) engines they share the same bore and stroke. the internals are EXACTLY the same. I assume you made a guess on this? because if you had looked either of them up you would know this is a false statement.
