Default LS6 vs LS2

hey guys, didnt really know where to put this, so i put it here.

well i am kinda stuck, i am debating on the 04 Z06(LS6) & the 05+ C6 coupe(LS2). i like the look of both cars, i kinda prefer the 05+ look over the 04 but they are pretty pricey as everyone knows. but i like the look of both enough to make my final decision on the performance of them lol. so i guess my question is, which engine is better? the LS6 or the LS2? i will be modding both engines either way. here are the mods i plan on doing to which ever i get:
-Forged bottom end(pistons,rods,crank)
-Cold Air Intake
-FAST intake
-Ported throttle body
-American Racing Longtube 1 7/8x3" headers w/cats
-X-pipe
-Corsa mufflers
-Texas Speed Texas Giant cam (248/254 .615/.622 113 LSA)
-AFR or PRC heads
-D1SC
thats the mods for the engine i plan on doing. so what do you guys think? should i spend the extra money on the C6 just for the looks or will the LS2 out perform the LS6 everytime with the same mods since it is bigger cubic inches wise. but if the LS6 with those mods will put out my goal(700-800rwhp) then i will probably just go with the 04 Z06 and save the money that i would spend on the 05+C6 coupe.

but anyways what do you guys think? thanks in advance

Sure you could reach those numbers. It's just a bit easier to do with more cubes. I'd vote LS2 just to get you into the new style vette because they're a lot nicer looking imho.

a LS2 block would be your best bet since it has bigger bore, you can achieve the same stroke in both blocks but the bore is what will count.

for the came choice you are looking at you really want something well over 400 cubes for that big of a cam, Also the Fast intake for the c6 you will have to modify the firewall last I heard to make it fit.

also with that big of a cam, you really should just get the 110mm fast intake and tb I think thats the size of it anyways. you will also nead some seriouse heads to move that much air.

700Hp will be alot easier to make on the Ls2. the only advantage of having a 04 zo6 over a standard c6 vette is the weight and performance mods from the factory on the zo6.

also if you are wondering if you can pay the extra money for one you better look at your mods list again, cause that is a easy 10 grand, and way more if you have someone else build it.

if your going forged bottom end a lil stroke to the ls6 with a 383 or 402 will get you to the power you want no problem

yeah i know my mods list will not be cheap thats why i was thinking about going with the 04 Z06 then spending the money that i didnt spend on the 05+ on the mods list.

what happens with bigger bore and adding cubes? Torque happens I really hope he chooses the c6, it is a better car IMO and you got the better technology if the gen 4 engine as well, and the aftermarket is definetly catching up with them.

the only reason not to go c6 would be cost, as to the engine if you are going to forge the bottom end the cost diff between installing a forged 416 in a c5 vs c6 is about $300 (most just go with a forged short from a vendor which includes a new block without a core and the conversion parts are around $300) and that gets you a ls3 in a c5. IMO the LS3 is a better platform than either the ls6 or the ls2. the c6 drive train in the later cars is beefier than the 04 c5 by a good margin but if you are going to track it you will need to replace most of the drivetrain with upgraded parts and the cost is the same for c5 vs c6. the fuel systm for the pre 03 c5 is a lot easier to mod for 700-800 rwhp than the post 03 fuel systems.

IMO the early C6 is a better car stock than the C5 in most respects (I do not like the looks as much as the c5 but that is a personal thing) and the later c6 is even better, but if you are planning 700-800 rwhp and tracking the car you will spend less money on the c5 IMO. In the end go with what you like, you only live once

Do a search on 2005 C6s, it's been awhile since I was looking but the first year had a number of problems. I'd spring for the later years if I was after one. If you can swing it though look at the c6zs. Almost everything you'll want to do to the c6 is already done on the c6z except the forged pistons/rods + SC.

LS2 for the win. Its a stronger block with a bigger bore and better head options.

if you are going to replace the short block it really does not matter and I would skip the ls2 and go straight to the ls3.
