Default Motor Build Forged 347

Well, after 80k on a stock bottom end, pushing 9-10# for awhile then 11-12# I am finally build a forged motor.

Going to try & keep this updated as much as I can to see what is goin on.

So right now I have a block, Diamond 3.905 -8.6cc pistons, K1 technology rods, and a stock crank down @ Martin's Competition Engines in Glen Rock being machined and balanced.

The past couple of days I have been slowly tearing & cleaning up the car. She developed a nice oil leak in the front of the motor some where this past summer and was just coating the whole under carriage.

Wanna clean it all up, have a fresh motor and trans in place and not have to worry bout anything for awhile.

So here is the progress so far, sorry for the shitty pics, left my camera down at Zturd's last weekend.

The key is getting the car up about 20". That height you can get the tranny and motor out using a motorcycle jack.

Wow you been busy overthere. LMAO!!!!! Toss them dam flywheel bolts they are torque to yield so I dont rectum using them again. I got two stands overhere also incase you need another.

You doing anything with the rear-end? Maybe some z06 shafts? Looks good daddy let me know if you need a hand. Nice piston choice I like them.

Very nice. Must be a pita working on a c5 with no lift. Why didnt you just pull the motor out the top and leave the tube, trans, and diff in the car? I have done a few c5/c6's and the motor will come right out the top no problem.

Like I said I am on a cleaning MISSION!!!! I had the rear cradle and a bunch of parts out in the parking lot, pressure washing them w/ simple green and crap to get all the oil off.

I am sick of reaching under the car to do somethign & coming back out w/ black arms.

Good job doing it on stands. The C5 is a great platform for this kinda work. You did it right, drop everything out of the bottom. We did the exact same thing to my friends C5 a couple years ago (forged motor, etc).

Thanks for posting all the photos !

I save them to file so I can look at them before I tackle a Job

Works out better in some cases than a schematic because your seeing things in

real time stills also sometimes you can overlook some things while looking under the hood and but catch it in a photo

Bon

don't worry i plan on doing a write up for the Corvetteforum. Because there is always some one asking, should i drop it out the bottom or cna it be pulled from top. And I am willing to do a write up on how this can be done at home, w/ out a lift, or cherry picker.
