Default TCI 3500 with what gear combo?

I just want your guys opinion on what gears i should run with a 3500 converter. Or should i just keep my stock 3.23s? I am thinking of either running some 3.42s or 3.73s? I can get them at a good price so either one is ok. Thanks

i would just keep the stock 3.23's...colonel is running low 11's with them if im not mistaken and for the price of the gears and install you could buy yourself a nice cam/springs package more thank likely, but thats me...im keeping my 2.73's and just stepping right into a cam...id think my converter would get me right into the sweet spot of the powerband as it is so gearing will be less of a factor.

If you could find a good price on a stock M6 rear I would go for it, but yea you could keep the 3.23s and be just fine. If the looseness ever gets on your nerves which i dont think it will you could always go to 3.42 or 3.73s personally I love my 3.73s.

Well it seems as though everyone thinks i should keep my 3.23s. Could i ask why do you think i will benefit from them more then i will with the 3.42s? I have a guy that will install some GM 3.42s for me for $150, thats gears and install so i dont know what i should do. Thanks for the quick replies.

I think that you should keep the 3.23's simply because those are probably best installed gears you will ever have ex. no noise and such. besided simply having the right tc with those gears, the car will be a beast!

in my opinion 3.42s and a 3000-3600 stall is the best combo. the 3.23s would probably be fine but 3.42s will tighten up the converter a bit. trust me i've had 2.73s, 3.23s and 3.42s. the 3.42s are the bet overall choice for an A4 car IMHO.

As far as daily driving, it's a preference thing. I like the 3.23s because the 1st gear is still usable, I can pull like 85 MPH in 2nd and almost 160 in third. Overall, I just really like the shift points for day to day driving. The other two reasons I like this gearset is that they are quiet (since GM set them up) and they are strong (because they have a larger pinion than steeper gears.)

At the track I'm pulling 1.55 60fts with a 3525 raceweight and an SS4000 converter. This setup has 1.4s in it with a little more practice and some minor weight reduction. Mark my word on that.

11.20/121.47 MPH last weekend, btw.

Oh yeah, I also pulled 1.61 60fts with the TCI3500 and these gears. That was with only ~355 RWHP (internally stock) and using Nitto drag radials.

Danuel,
Keep the stock gears man....... They ARE stronger and setup awsome. Thats a good price from steve though. You wont have to change your shift points either and that would be a pain..... You will like it with your 3.23's and your gas milage should stay the same too. Save that $150 thats 1 Nitto drag radial right there..... and your going to need them bro.

Not worth the $ to change from 323 to 342 not that much of a Jump. Just get the tci ssf converter you will think you installed gears.

I have found a killer deal on some Gm 323's myself.
They have around 500 miles on them out of his 02 SS.
He also has the carrier. $200.00 & that includes recalibrating my speedo.
Will i notice a difference from my stock 273's? I am hoping to get myself a 3500 stall for christmas (for myself)

Besides all the good reasons given above, the difference between 3.23s and 3.42s is so slight as to completely negligible from a performance standpoint. Why bother?
