5th and 6th grinding

Default 5th and 6th grinding

well installed 9 inch about 4 months ago, after the install drove around and grinded going into 6th, which didnt bother me it grinded a little and drove fine when in gear, now tonight it did it in 5th also, i do beat on the car but dont jam 5th and 6th gear, is this shift fork issues possibly a syncro. thanks for the help.

I would also like to know. My 5th gear does this, I can usually get it in 5th if I'm going under 40 Mph. I just want to know if I'm going to have to replace the gear when I send it in to get rebuilt.

I would say the shift fork pads for 5/6 are probably gone. That likely caused the initial problem. That being said the longer you drive it like this the more it is going to wear on the gears. You will likely need to replace the 5/6 syncro assembly and 5th and 6th gears because of the engagement teeth being worn

well that blows, clutch is kind of worn down also, car only has 76.xxx miles seem kind of shitty that would happen, i beat on the car only 1 thru 4. dont do top speed runs.

yeah that doesn't matter every trans I have taken apart the 5/6 shift fork pads are worn down the worst. That is why they make brass shift fork pads to put back in the trans instead of the stock plastic ones

Damn its always something, rear end blows $2500, now needs a rebuilt trans needs a $1000 clutch,

mine started grinding 5th and 6th right after a gear change weird coincidence, but pulled it apart and found small burrs on the syncro. If it wasnt me could have filed down the burrs and ran her.
