Think of the 317 heads as low compression ls6 heads, they will out flow a stock ls1 heads, but have bigger chambers for lower compression. Most turbo guys want these heads, so if you do remove them make sure to put a decent price tag on them as they are kinda sought after. I think the prc heads will give a quit a bit compression, I'm not 100% on how strong the truck pistons are but they may not like the higher compression the 5.3 heads offer.

If you can get a bigger cam then even your stock f-body cam. a cam like the texas speed tv.2 cam will make great power. But if you don't want to go that route at least put the f-body cam in, Its slightly bigger, but not by much.

Depending on what size the chambers are, and what gaskets you run, the 5.3 heads could push your compression up to 10.5:1 or 11:1. Also, don't forget that GM switched the LS1 engines in 2001 over to the 6.0L truck cam. You may be better off leaving it if you are not planning an upgrade. That said, even a mild cam could make an easy 400/400 to the rear wheels, while still remaining fairly stealthy, especially with an LS6 intake.

My buddy has a ls2 gto cam whitch I think is a decent sized cam if you are on a budget, do a search on 2006 ls2 gto cam specs, but I think they are near 525 lift. I'm sure he would sell it cheap, just pm me and/or give me your cell.

LS2 GTO cam is the '01 LS6 cam, 204/211 (or something like that, I'm on my phone). For a budget build, I agree that it would work well.

"or swap to my prc 2.5 5.3 heads"

While L92's would work, the original post was about choosing between the heads that Quick99TransAm already has available. L92's would require different rocker arms and a different cam profile as well.
