Default Which engine to supply for my power plant

I have a 60K LS1 in my car right now, its the original motor. I plan on building a single front mount here in the near future, maybe middle spring time 2010. This will be nothing fancy, OE shortblock kind of thing. Here are my two choices...

(1) Put 317 heads on my LS1 with a stock MLS gasket which is roughly ~9.0:1-9.1:1 compression. This would cause a longer downtime, but thats really not that big of an issue.

(2) Buy cheap LQ4, stronger block, although I will not be reaching the limits of either blocks, heavier mass on front tires, which I am already adding weight to the front end with turbo, and higher compression at ~9.5:1 ish. But potential for more power via larger displacement(I wouldn't imagine much).

Both setups will be using a meth mixture. Which would you choose and why, or what other option?

I'll be going with a single turbo up front also in Feb. or March, and after talking to tons of knowledgable ppl on here and around the local scene, I have been told by numerous ppl to go with a 6.0 iron block bored to 370ci and a 76 to 78 mm turbo to reach my goal of 650-750hp. Mine won't see much track time due to not wanting to cage the car, but the turbo/motor setup will be capable of higher hp with higher octane fuel and turning up the boost. What's your hp goal?

reliable 600ish, I would prefer stock shortblock setup either way I go though. I know those 2 statements contradict themselves, with meth and a great tuner, I think it is feasible, or at least a bet I am willing to risk

I've learned the hard way too many times....spend the money upfront or later.
Hopefully it will hold.

I say keep the aluminum block, if you upgrade your internals you should have a healthy and reliable 600rwhp.

The main thing to keep in mind is a good tune. Get someone who knows their stuff on turbo cars, too little timing can also be bad for a motor.

I know a guy who runs a stock ls1 with the 317 heads at 12 psi running 10.4 @ 130, its just a budget build turbo on this camaro, runs pretty good. I think it put down 550rwhp. He drives the thing everywhere. I'm sure the tune has alot to do with how the car is holding up.

I am not wanting to replace the stock internals. Which would be more valuable, the few extra cubes or the little lower compression and lightweight?

I've just started working on doing this, and have a LQ9 for the bottom end. What is the bore required for a 370?

OK, fast and reliable stock shortblock.

Seriously, out of the two combos up top, which would be better

If I can get a summer out of a 5.3 before killing it. I can go thru 5-10 motors before equalling the cost of 1 built motor. plus I can change my plans every other year also

Engines must be pretty cheap where you live. Up here they want 600 bucks for a bagged 6.0l with 300000 kms on them. Basicly a core engine. Can't touch anything ls for less than $3000 if you can even find them

IMO i would keep your block ,change your pistons and rods, run your stock crank, shoot for around 9.8 to 10.0 to 1 compression. This would upgrade what you have and the compression will help spool the turbo faster. You should be able to do this with you budget and have an engine that will live for ever.
