So I really wish I would have done this when I had just the bare housing before I put the center in but I didnt so now I gota deal with it. Would it be possible to put a drain plug in the housing full of oil and not get to many metal flakes in there if I flush it a little maybe? Once I get the hole and tap/die it I can run a qt of gear oil through the hole to hopefully get the flakes out. I was also thinking when Im tap/dieing it can I put some kind of grease on the tap/die fitting to hopefully absorb the metal flakes?

I think it will be but I really dont want to pull the dirveshaft, torque arm...etc.

I would recommend waiting til your ready to change the gear oil. Then, take the center section out, drain the housing, drill and tap it, flush it out good and get any loose burs off from the inside, cause there will most likely be some, and you'll be done with out the mess and also have peace of mind that there isn't metal chips floating around in there.

I know you don't want to pull the drive shaft, etc, etc, but the right way normally isn't the easy way.

what he said.do it the right way and not cut corners.I ve installed/weld my drain plug before my currie went in under the car.good luck.

I hear ya guys....I normally dont cut corners on anything but I am a firm believer in "smarter...not harder" if its possible, lol.

You should be okay with running gear oil through it to flush out any metallic particles. Grease on the tap will help too. Bob
