hey, im doing a cam in my ls1. its got 120k on it. do i need to do a new timing chain and sprockets or will just a chain be fine?

unless the sprockets are worn then no need to change em. i just changed my chain on mine. LS2 chain is thicker and is direct replacement

no need to be a cheap ***, replace the sprockets. You might feel guilty if you dont Yank has the set for like $70 shipped I believe.

Replace the set. The gears can develop wear that can affect chain release as the chain comes off. When this happens, wrap can occur which will break the chain. With that many miles, why would you risk the expensive parts you are installing for something that doesn't cost much to replace.

A chain dampner will reduce the effect of chain snap as well; keeps the chain from breaking. GM, Pace performance sells them. +1000 on using an LS2 chain.

You could probably run just the chain if you didn't have the budget for the whole thing but with that kind of mileage, I would replace both the chain and gears. We have chains starting around $75 and going up from there. Let me know if we can help!
