Default Liquid Glass?

O.k... has anyone opened up an engine after they poured the liquid glass in it. I am referring to the cash for clunker engines. How bad is it and is it still rebuildable or not? Of course after installing new pistons, bearings etc.

Good question, I've wonder about that as well. I bet disassembling the rotating assembly is a *****.

I have been to several salvage yards and have the c4c on the car which is the cash for clunkers and I have been able to rotate the engines. I am going to try and open one up while i'm out there and see what I find.

If it still spins over, then the chances of a locked engine are not that great.

Problem is that IF it did spin a main bearing, then you will need to line bore the block to make sure it is right for rebuild.

As for spinning rods? Who cares, you will want to use ARP hardware and resize them anyway.

Just avoid one that will not turn over.

the biggest problem with those motors is that all the oil passages get clogged with that liquid glass ****. sometimes it impossible to get it all out and after its been rebuilt you can end up frying a cam, rod or main bearing cause of it. more problems than its worth in my opinion.

Yea, boiling the block should get it, but that would be the machine shops job to make sure it is right.

Both of those are good points^^ and I have thought of it. The reason I am bringing this topic up is because I found a couple of 6liters and I want one lol!
I do know a guy that has a machine shop and told me he could put it in some kind of acid cleaner to clean it out. He said about 2 or 3 days of sitting in it can clean it up real good. I am going to try this and I will keep updating on my results.

isn't it a federal crime that sends you to a federal PMITA prison if you buy or reuse a C4C'd engine?

^^^Good question, but the fact should be if you SELL one, a buyer probably would never know and a seller is the one who should know the law.

After all it is a business that would have the parts, not an individual.

Its the stuff they put in the motors to seize them up. They did this on all the cash for clunker cars being turned in.
