Default My new Firebird

Well, this Monday, after suffering the loss of my 97 Trans Am for a little over a year, I found my new ride.

1999 Trans Am, 6-speed, with 15,000 original miles.

Thats right, 15k

Bought it from carmax, and I got to speak to the buyer who bought it on carmaxes behalf, turns out it belonged to a guy who owned a dealership or something to that effect. The car is spotless, the seats dont even looked used. It still smells like a new car even.

So now I have a clean slate, 100% stock, to do with what I see fit.

Pics will have to wait till I get back from my parents. Its rained every day since I got the freaking thing, but I see sun today

EDIT: Oh, and first things first, it sounds weak thanks to that stock exhaust, so thats almost first on the list to get swapped. Any suggestions?

Congratulations on a great find!! May I ask what Carmax was asking for the car? They don't tend to take ultra-low miles into consideration on some models. I expect retail from them but not a hefty 'premium' in addition.

It set me back $17k.

Its a large sum, but Im surprised they let me at it at all. Im 21 with very very little credit history.

Buying my house was actually easier then buying the car

Pics will have to wait till tomorrow now, got so busy I forgot to drop by the parents.

Well that is top $$ but it probably is 'like new' and you can't buy many 'new' cars like a T/A for $17k. The depreciation will be minimal the longer you keep it too. Even if you kept it 5 years and sold it for $7k that averages out to just $2,000 per year for driving one hell of a car. Sounds good in my book. Good luck with it!

Sorry about the no pics or response, had trouble getting on a comp for the past couple days.

It's a bit dirty, since its rained a couple times since I got it and I don't even have a hose at my new house yet. I'm planning on cleaning it up this weekend though

Looks clean! Now it needs a WS6 hood and some wheels.

As for the exhaust, it all depends on what you want. Go to ls1sounds.com and check out the different setups.

I had LT's, ORY, and Magnaflow, but it was too quiet for me just driving around town, but it REALLY opened up at WOT! I now have a LM2 system in place of the Magnaflow, and it's just too damn raspy, so I'm gonna swap a Borla XR1 muffler in the place of the LM2 muffler to turn it into a Borlamouth, which will make it deeper, and reduce the rasp drastically.

I would recommend LT's, ORY, and Magnaflow to anyone though.

Nice find! It's odd seeing bone stock LS1-era 'birds.

I bought my Silverado from Car Max back in 2004. Very pleasant experience I must say.

Hard to find a virgin when a car was set up to play (LS1, T56).

Way to go.

Yup, only reason I paid the premium I did was the super low miles and great condition. And I must say the whole experience with Carmax was very nice.

I'm right on the Kannapolis-concord border, about 30 miles north of Charlotte.

The same thing happened to me at your age man...
I was 21, bought my first house... was a breeze...
Bought my first brand new car right after, needed a cosigner...

My vote goes to Kooks LTs and ORY into a magnaflow with an electric cutout.. Magnaflow is quiet on the inside driving around normal while being loud enough on the outside to be noticed. It screams at WOT though, I get compliments all the time.. after that I would do intake/gears then maybe a tune..

With tires that should get you 12s..

I would suggest only buying top of the line parts.. Kinda pointless to buy a car like that and then go buy uncoated hooker headers (no offense)..
