Default mystery noise

Alright. Car is a 2000 Formula with 120k miles. Stock Engine.

At cold start there is ticking sound, that lasts no more than 30 seconds, and the car still runs moves like a bat outta hell. It goes away if with the gas pressed, and I have watched the oil pressure like a hawk and it never goes down... I am fairly sure it is not the bottom end.

Lazy lifter maybe, piston slap? idk. Ideas?

Does it almost sound like a VERY faint rod knock? I'm willing to bet its piston slap.

I am thinking its no threat. Wrist pin maybe? My uncle says several ls1's do it... I would says its because its cold... but that's not it. 30 seconds is enough to lube the engines parts... but not enough to heat it up... I am thinking everything is ok... will put a slightly heavier oil in next week and see if that helps.

Some LS motors are susceptible to slight piston slap at startup which isn't much of a concern. It could be a lifter thats bleeding off and going flat. Does it happen every start? Does it depend on how long the car sits without running?

Depends on how long the car sits without running. It is also quite possibly the lifter... But it isn't quite enough like a knocking sound that would make me think its a bearing.

http://www.pistonslap.com/photos.htm sounds very much like this for about 15-30 seconds.

My 02 knocks clicks ticks and taps badly until its warmed up. In this colder weather its really bad. I read someplace online that the wrist pins-pistons in some of these engines can sound like lifters tapping. Weird thing with mine is hot its completely quiet, cold its so bad its insane. It sounds terrible and only has 47k on it. I think its a lifter problem because the car runs different everytime you drive it. Piston slap or wrist pin noise would effect performance. My oil pressure is good too. 60 cold idle 50 hot idle.

WOW that sound clip sounds EXACTLY like mine cold!

I would check your pushrods, alot of people find bent p-rods in their stock cars.
