today i had a friend of mine hook up the HP Tuners and fine tune it a little since i have changed a few things. as we are driving around, the coolant temp on the HP Tuners screen is ranging anywhere from 214-222. the higher speed i go, the warmer it got, but it would never get above 222. theslower i went, the cooler the temps got. usually its the opposite.

so im wondering....has anyone ever experience weird temp readings like this? the car did not act as if it was running at this temperature. usually if coolant gets this hot, its going to keep climbing, but it just stood steady and consistent between 214-222 degrees. after the drive, i poped the hood, and you would never know the coolant temp was that hot unless you saw it on the gauge. no gurgling or any hissing noises under the hood that you sometimes get when a coolant gets this hot. also, the gauge in the car was reading 190ish. now, i know these gauges are more dummy gauges, but if my coolant was indeed 222 degrees, the needle should st least move past the halfway mark, which is 210. the car is not loosing any coolant, the oil looks fine (no coolant in there). my metal radiator cap was even COOL to the touch, not the least bit warm at all.

anyone have any ideas?

It sounds a little warm, but probably not totally out of the range of the stock thermostat (perhaps +10F over normal).

You can check the entire cooling system. Probably better to stock a 180F Thermostat in it. They usually are fully open at 190-195 F (at least mine does). While you can always adjust the fans, there are there more for idle and low speeds. The ambient air cools better at highway speed, so fans play little part over 65 MPH.

Your range is a little warm for me. Perhaps others run theirs that hot, but sounds like you might have a minor issue.

but.......if i wouldnt have seen the reading on HP Tuners, there would be NO indication that it was this warm. pop the hood, and the aluminum rad cap was cool to the touch, not even lukewarm. is it a possiblilty that HP Tuners is given a flase reading? just wondering...

The fans do not come on, with the stock tune, until 226 for fan1 and 234 for fan2.

2002 F car tune.

If you left them at the stock settings, there is nothing wrong.

my tuner has the fans set for 176 and 190. hopefully a 160 stat will bring it down.

i couldnt get a 160 tstat locally, so i just put in a stock 180.....seeems to be running a little coooler now. but thats only from looking at the needle, which isnt very accurate. i wont know for sure until i hook HP Tuners up.

you can changed the fan setting to come one any temperture you want, but if you dont change the thermostat that actually flows the coolent through the system, its not going to help you much.

cruising mine sits at 172 degrees

i just posted that i changed the thermostat lol. and i have a friend with HP Tuners that does my tuning, so fan settings are no problem as well.
