Well, another small block chevy is a direct bolt in, a big block bolts right in with the right headers.

The LS1 goes in with the swap mounts, they can be a pain in the as though. The LS1 also requires a trans mount or to custom make your own. Depends on what you wanna do, just throw money at it and you can get it done.

You will find lots of help with the ls1-related questions in the Conversions & Hybrids forum.

You can also check out thirdgen.org which has some people who have done the swap.

Are you going carbed or running EFI? If you run fuel injection, you'll have get a working harness and computer, also I don't know for 89 F-bodies but if you want to use stock gauges you'll have to make sure you can wire those up. I know on early y-bodies some functions get lost but you might not have that problem.

By far the easiest is to stick with what you have, a 421 Dart SHP block with those new AFR heads could put down some killer numbers. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...m-miniram.html

What do you mean? Stock is a TPI as your first thread states. Tuner Port Injection, the second generation of fuel injection out of the 70s/80s following CrossFire Injection (CFI).

So stock, it is electronic fuel injection (EFI.) Lots of people run carb setups just because you don't have to deal with a computer, and it is a lot easier to adjust, if you don't know how to do your own tunes.

What are you looking to do/achieve here? What is your experience?

This guys is a 91, also TPI and similar if not same ECM (I can't remember) follow along that thread to see what you are in for. Fuel lines, wiring harness, motor etc etc. It is awesome and worth the work, but depending on your goals a big inch SHP block build may be much cheaper and a lot easier.

If you want simple, you'll want to stay gen1 SBC. All your sensors/motor mounts/exhaust will all bolt up.

TPI is fuel injected
You can definitely convert it to carb, or you can port out your TPI OR buy a SuperRam/MiniRam/Stealth Ram etc some type of aftermarket fuel injection setup.

What kind of power/RPM are you looking for.

The mantra that is unfortunately somewhat true is that you can only have two of the following:
Power, Reliability, Low cost

(Of course power is all relative, compared to stock 305 you could probably have all three. )

You need to fund a 350 from a 96-98 Chevy/GMC truck and put a small cam in it with a vortec lower base and keep it TPI or go the easier way like me and get the carbed intake. It will make plenty of torque and enough power to make you happy. Not to mention most cars you run up again will be mad you best them or surprised you were right next to them.

Small blocks are going to be more of a bolt in than BB. (350 is a small block, 454 is a big block.)

Lt1 is GEN2 you are looking for GEN1 motors.

Vaguely speaking:
GEN1 pre 1992.
GEN2 LT1 motors, reverse cooling, optispark ingnition 1992-1996.
Gen III-IV- LS style motors 1997+

What you should do is look at the block you have now and try and keep it the same.
(I.E. GEN1 SBC, dipstick on whatever side it is on. So forth and so on.)

Ok, I'm just gonna list some books you should read. I think you need to start searching and reading threads and so forth. This stuff can get pricey fast and you should do a lot of research on it before jumping in.

It sounds like you aren't too familiar with your car, so try reading up on car specific forums (thirdgen.org) and you'll find a plethora of information. Also, check out these books, they are good for a beginner and have some good suggestions for hot street builds.

"Chevy Small-Block V-8 Interchange Manual (Motorbooks Workshop)"
David Lewis; Paperback; $18.24

"How to Rebuild Your Small-Block Chevy"
David Vizard; Paperback; $14.93

"John Lingenfelter on Modifying SB Chevy Engines"
John Lingenfelter; Paperback; $13.57

Good luck.

I don't think your T-5 5-speed will live behind a motor that puts out too much power unless you modify it some.

I have to agree with earlier reply. I'd look for the vortec truck motor, they make great power for what they are and can be found.
