Cadillac CTS-V - Terrible noise at startup in cold weather!

Any ideas? I have an '04 with approximately 59k miles. This is the first winter with it and today is the 2nd day of near 0°. When I started my V this morning and again when I got done with work, there was a horrible howling coming from the engine bay. Is this a known problem? Perhaps a belt tensioner... I hope not worse. My initial reaction was that the oil was too cold/thick and not circulating. What are your thoughts?

prolly just the belt, but id pop the hood and actually look in there while its howling..

Probably the power steering pump. Mine does it if its below 50 degrees outside until it warms up. I've had a few cars do this. If you have a warranty the dealer will replace the pump.

It only does it for 3 seconds or so. I'll pay closer attention tomorrow morning when I start it up. If it's only the power steering I'll be happy.

Make sure the power steering reservoir is completely full. Mine was doing it and it was just a little low. Being in Dallas mine has never been subject to 0° so even if yours is full it might still do it a little. Switching to a synthetic fluid would probably help too.

You might also try turning the wheel when it makes the noise and if it changes pitch you know its the power steering.
