Default light weight hood for trans am?

Hey guys, is there a light weight hood for TA's? Ive got a stock WS6 hood right now, but would like to see if I can find a decent light weight hood for the car. Thanks in advance.

the ws6 hood is really light from what iv heard...its fiberglass from the factory and i think it weighs like 11 pounds or something like that...i would spend the 1000 dollars that ur going to spend on hood and paint on something else !!

its def ALOT more then 11 lbs. I just picked up my buddies aftermarket VFN hood the other day, and that thing is LIGHT! He had an SS hood on it before, and that VFN is TONS lighter. I mean granted it fits like absolute hell, but its light.

Joe VanO carbon fiber hood here. Fits like a glove and is the lightest thing on the planet. But very expensive about 1200-1500 depending on who you get it from plus about 4 to 6 month wait.

The LAT to teh joe van o is the sloped 5 inch ws6 hood that VFN makes, I have one here, fitment will be pretty good once I get it mounted, just laying the hood on the car you can see it will fit pretty well.

Wipers will have to go, as it covers the entire cowl up to the windshield, and it's a pin on like the joe van o. I can tell you, it's about 14 lbs before trimming/painting, so figre 15 with paint I'd guess after being mounted. Stock ws6 hood when I took mine off was like 47 lbs if I remember right, then figure the release cable, handle, hood latches, hood hinges, hood shocks, all that stuff that gets to go. Granted you'll need 5 lbs in rails, but you're probably losing another 5 lbs in all that other stuff that goes away.

My suncoast hood hardly weights much at all. I took it off and put it on by myself many times

Stock SS and WS6 hoods are 47-50 lbs.

VFN WS6 hood is 25 lbs in a bolt-on.

Pinon is 11-14.

Jesus, where do you buy hoods? VFN or glasstek hoods are like $400-$500.

Also, 4 pins vs. rails might be lighter, and its definitley easier.

Pins might be easier, but that's a little too much 1980 for me.

Yeah, get back to me after actually using those 1/4 turns. They ******* suck. My buddy has 4 small pins on his WS6 and it looks 100X better than any rail setup I've seen.

Or if you wanna be really slick get the aerocatch latches. 4 of those will hold anything and you can lock them.

I actually thought about those.

The Dzus fastners are fine as long as you have a solid mount on the car, if the mount's are little tabs that can move around I agree 100% they are a nightmare, but on cars I've worked on that had them done right, they're fine.

I don't much like pin-on hoods, I have my first car with one. But I can appreciate the efforts that racers make to lighten up these tanks.
