My advice would be go tour and check out ANY school you're interested in. Talk to as many people as you can that have attended/are attending them. The more options you have to compare the better, in my opinion. I checked out NTI/UTI, Wyotech, and VC Tech. I ended up going with NTI. I am not going to say I dislike NTI, but I regret not checking out SAM.
You never know though.....I may have thought it better, may not.

I hear SAM is a great school, but isn't it just mainly powerplant theory and machining? I mean how in depth do you want to go with it? A school like UTI or Wyotech gives you the whole spectrum. From air conditioning to hotrod.

If you ever want to get out of just going to school learn how to turn wrenches and are looking for a degree in automotive technology, let me know...

Don't go to wyotech unless you are a d-bag or your going for diesel. I live in Laramie, Wyoming and it sucks here, believe me you don't want to go to school here unless your going for diesel.

Thats where i'd go, and theirs women at college (good looking ones at that)
UTI is the biggest sausage fest one can attend.
Now if you want a challenge, try getting into this school

if your really into the entire High Performance field, UNOH is the way to go.
http://www.unoh.edu/academics/collegetechnologies/high_performance_motorsports_technology.shtml
we have everything here from hi-po welding/fab to engine class to driveline classes suspension...etc
but if your only into the engines, SAM is the way to go.

I knew a guy back home that went there and he loved it.

Wish I would have went to UNOH instead of Lincoln Tech.
Don't get me wrong, Lincoln was a great school (and close to me) for basic automotive, and the management program is great, but their performance classes are garbage, taught by teachers who don't give a rat's ass. If that's your main focus, I'd ONLY consider UNOH. If engine theory/building is your main focus, I'd go to SAM.
Whatever you do, if a program is offered to obtain an associate's degree, TAKE IT!

UNOH is the way to go. I graduated from UNOH in 08' and though I'm not making it a career, I am VERY satisfied with the education I received. They also offer a bachelors program, and the school is an accredited school. I took my creidts from UNOH and all but maybe 2-3 were accepted at the college I'm attending now for nursing. Spend the extra few months doing the diesel and alt fuels program. That will give you a backup if the fluctuating high performance market is not working out for you.

agreed. This weekend I'm helping one of my instructers swap a 302 into his faielabne wagon. Honestly I can't see getting this kind of 1 on 1 time anwhhere else but UNOH. The most you will ever have in class is 20 ppl at a time. It's awesome.

And in comparison, we had 4 people in our hydraulic brakes class
Damn, I think the smallest class I've had yet was 28 at the start of it. Usually they finish with around 20 though, because people fail and time out.

Which school?
I felt cramped even with 18 people in the class. Especially one that was very hands on.

I feel cramped sometimes too mike but compared to uti where you have 40 plus in a class with little to no hands on...I'll take it. Lol

Yea, I signed up for UNOH after visiting UTI, LTI, and Nashville Tech back in 2005

Another UNOH grad here. There isn't a better rounded tech school out there. The instructors are damn good, you won't find any better anywhere. 99% of them love their job and really want you learn. That school is constantly pumping millions of dollars into improving its campus, facilities, shop equipment, etc. It's a shame that Lima OH is such a crappy place, but you just gotta make the best of it.
I will say that any school you decided to go to, it's the extra activities you get into that will set you apart from the rest. It's pretty easy to float through school, get all A's, and then people wonder why they get stuck working at a jiffy lube when they graduate. Try to get some actual real world experience, and network like hell so you get some good oppotunities when you graduate.

I agree I am a grad from there. That school is awesome. None of that rush you through and graduate in 6 months. I went for 4 yrs and have a degree.
SAM is supposed to be great for machinists. BUT UNOH is awesome all around.

I was referring to NTI.
