Default saying no to the $1200+ catback

LOL...well, after much research here and on camaro5...it seemed that for a mild bolt on car there was no reason to go to a dual 3" exhaust. Makes sense to me because my turbobuick is making more power than this car through a single 3". So the dual 2.5" vs the aftermarket 2.5" on the manual cars don't seem to be seeing any real gains...tuned w/stock exhaust vs tuned with aftermarket exhaust. A lot of the aftermarket peeps are throwing numbers at the 5th gen cars untuned...once you tune, the bolt-ons aren't making quite as much. Now the automatics have a 28-20" resonator H-pipe thing under the backseat....there have been documented cases of catbacks seeing 10-12 horse gain on the autos. I think the problem is the resonator being that the only difference in the auto and manual exhaust is that area.
So, we installed a magnaflow X pipe and some 2.5" pipe in place of the resonator. You can really feel the midrange power gain (2500-3500) rpm. Still no drone in the cabin IMO. You can definitely hear the exhaust...but its not bothersome IMO. WOT...it's louder but I really can't tell that there is much gain since I did the cold air intake (airaid). Midrange is for sure worth it though...being that is where you spend most of your time driving the car.

So...for less than $200...I'm eat up with it. Feels better than $1200+. I really wish I would've done a before and after dyno pull...I thought it would be neglegible...but you can tell there is more torque in the midrange.

One disclaimer...FI and big nitrous shot cars are seeing gains on 3" exhaust. Also, I'm looking at doing longtubes down to a 2.5" outlet. I'll spray it...but 90% of the time the bottle will not be in the car...so may as well make it nice to drive and not lose any lowend torque.

Sound disclaimer...catbacks like the Magnaflows, Borlas, Corsas, etc sound awesome...that may be worth the money to you if you are after their sound. I may throw some Magnaflow straight shot mufflers on the back for sound later...but the stock mufflers are pretty straight through believe it or not.

I personally would not bother getting a 2.5" expensive catback, but I'd be willing to pony up the dough for a 3" one.

Guys I posted the pics of our TSP exhaust system in this section, you can get headers, x pipe, axle back & cats for $1649, or $1449 with off-road pipes

IMO...and many others...3" isn't needed on this car unless you are spraying it heavily or forced induction.
I also like the car quieter at cruise on the interstate...Corsa is the only exhaust I or any of my friends have run that doesn't drone bad. They have a nice catback...but once again...the price, for now. Sooner or later the pricing on catbacks will maintain 800 or less. But still...there's no gain in the axle back...so you give me even the Flowmaster catback at $700...I'll take my over $500 difference and put it towards the long-tubes coming next.
I'm just trying to help out with something I found on a new mildly modded car.

SOunds like the new Camaros are in the same boat as the 04-07 CTS-V's. I looked and looked and looked for an aftermarket system and the cheapest was magnaflow at right around 800. Many people spent the money and found MAYBE 5hp from the sytem. The stock systems are very efficient and unless you go forced induction there is absolutely no reason performance wise. As for sound, many do the xpipe in place of resonator, or i cut both mufflers off and just put new tips on. The factory resonator is still in place which tones it down very nice with little to no drone and it was done for 120 bucks.
