Default Bilstein owners: Top of bilstein rears??

Hello all, I recently picked up q set or rear bilsteins without the hardware. The top only had c-clips where the washers is on the decarbons. One of these clip came off when tightning the nut too much on the top of the shock with the rubber mounts. My question is what is under the factory blue shock covers as I didn't get them? I may have to retro fit something stronger or see if the decarbons washers will fit. I got it all back together, but wonder if a large bump with pop it back off???? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the offer, i really need two, but one is half way there. Let me know how much to give you?

I ended up using some universal rancho black boots from kragen that seem to work fine. Using the old rubber from the decarbons, i'm worried about the bottom large steel washer may have too much tension on the c-clip that's holding the shaft from going up. Do you know what it looks like under the boot? Maybe the boot's washer holds the (retaining) c-clip from expanding, thus much stronger hold.

I should have thought about it some more, I guess i can try using the hardened washers from the decarbons, will have to pull them out once more.

This all started when I heard something pop when tightning the first rear this weekend, it took one drive to work and yesterday, realizing the shock punctured a hole the carpet. Well, the passenger side is real easy to get to now, the hole is really a square shaped flap, doesn't look to bad at all....

Didn't realize the pop i heard was the retaining clip. I pulled the clip, bent it back tight and got it one there nice and tight. I'm thinking, maybe the force of the rubber mounts being compressed, may cause them to grab onto the shaft, take the force off the clip.

I just looked at it, on the shaft there is a small c clip and the metal insert inside of the blue cover rest on it. There is nothing actually holding the cover on except gravity, the c clip makes the blue cover sit at the right height.

Thanks for checking, i bet the metal insert fits over the c-clip holding it from spreading open. Let me know about the cover, i'd like the get the all the hardware, don't need the used shock, these were new, just no hardware. Wish i could find just one more boot... Let me know where to send some paypal funds for the one boot, I will see if bilstein will part with another boot. Thanks!

BTW, thanks for the help 01ssreda4. If you could, for kicks, please take a look at inside of the boot and tell me what the metal insert/washer is shaped like? Does it cup around the c-clip? Much appreciated!

I looked at the blue cover, it doesnt actually have a groove for the c clip to be retained in. Hows its designed is for a gravity fit. Its like a collar cut on the inside of the metal insert. So its cut bigger on the bottom side, the c clip slides inside the insert and at the top it hits the smaller section and stops. So the c clip does hold the blue cover, but the bottom of the insert is open and the cover slides on and off with no resistance.

I will sell the cover and c clip if you need it for the cost of a bubble envelope and the couple bucks for the post office. Thats it, not looking to make anything.

So, when the top nut gets tightened, all the pressure from the rubber mounts sit directly on the c-clip? There is nothing else that the strain can be put on? On the decarbons, the c-clip is a hardened washer that holds the strain, which seems a bit stronger... Thanks again...

no, there is a shoulder on the strut's shaft and a bottom washer holds the mount's pressure. Nothing rests on the blue cover or the c clip.

Im sorry that was a mistake, the clip rides in the groove and the shoulder is below it, so yes the mount does rest on the c clip. What I have is: 1 boot, 1 c clip, 4 washers (2 for each side) and 2 rubber mounts (2 per side). Just let me know exactly which pieces you need.
