Default Best way to run a Carbed LS motor.

I want to build a LS 408 with a super vic carb intake. I know MSD has the 6LS and thats what I planned to go with but I was wondering if there was a better option since its going to be a race car.

The MSD features a 2 step, a vacuum advance, and a timing retard for nitrous.

I dont know how much timing it will pull or is this the best way to run a carbed LS race car.

The only other limiting factor is budget so a high end system isn't really an option for me.

You can run a distributor http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-88958679 but its more expensive than the MSD box.

yeah go with the 6010 and email pro systems for a carb and they will set you up. plan on around $800 for the carb but it will be spot on as long as you are honest on the carb build sheet

I've heard pro systems is the best but, with a dist and the msd box do you basically set up the engine and run it like a gen 1 engine or do you still need the things like a cam sensor, crank triggers and all the other little stuff?

just keep the msd, it will for sure keep up with your 9sec. n/a motor. with all the features it comes with.
i built a motor that turns 7000rpm and runs 9's with a plate an doesnt miss a beat and thats with old box that is adjustable with pills that all the uninformed fools rag on. and it has none of the nifty features the 6010 has.
im confident the 58x version box will lite off the 800hp turbo motor im putting together.

If you run a distributor, you don't use the MSD box. It's for coil-on-plug engines. Use the MSD with the crank and cam sensor.

I'm running the 6012 on my ls2 in my road race car and I think the little bit of extra wiring for the three sensors is very clean and still less troublesome than long plug wires and high spinnning distributor. I don't know a whole lot about the ls dizzy system but the ford system I am familiar with.....well lets just say I was pretty stoked not to have a distributor gear. I;m running a proform 750 carb with an asa road race cam with stock internals and have 468 at the wheels which in my 1850 lb car runs like a scalded dog. Still working a bit with programming the timing( note some of the ignition boxes fr the ls are preset) and hope to have that sorted fairly soon.

Good luck.

+1 This is what I am going to do, but what carb from Pro Systems are you running that cost you $800? Everyone I have talked to say they are paying $550-600 for theirs.
