408 cam/compression help
I am building a 408 for my 99 m6 z28 and just want to get it done. It's a 6.0 block, callies crank, callies compstar rods arp2000 rod bolts and arp main studs, the pistons are diamond racing -2cc flat top pistons. The only problem is that im running low on funds and the only top end I have to go on it are the stock ls1 heads. Or the 317 heads that came with the motor,
I'm really trying to go high compression to make up for shitty head flow but what would the compression be with the 317's or even the stock ls1's? And cam anybody recommend me a cam, I was thinking a tsp giant? I already have 4.10 gears, long tube headders, off road y pipe and a borla exaust. It is not my DD or anything just a toy so I am willing to go big on the cam, in the future i am going to change the heads/intake to reach my 500 wrhp goal but for now this is what I got to work with...

Why dont get a good valve job and mill your 317s to bump up your compression. From what I understand the 317s are a better flowing head then the 241 or 853 ls1 castings. 317s just have a bigger chamber.

yeah thats what I was thinking about doing, I gotta check some shops around and see what kinda compression I can squeeze outta this thing, What about cams tho? is the giant too big or is there a better cam for this app?

old thread but my buddy and I are thinking about doing this to his car what kinda power are we looking at?
408 with stock 317 heads or possibly milled to 68 cc and valve job through ls6 intake!
any opinions? right now this is all he can afford on his 408 setup... hes more then likely going with a texas giant cam
