Air box questions
Ok is this air cleaner setup any good or will I see more with an slp setup?
My hood has been cut in front of the filter, but someone tole me I would make more hp with the slp lid, air box, and smooth bellows is that true?? Yes I know my setup is all hacked up I plan on making it look better.

If it were me, I would look into a lid setup. From everything I have seen on the dyno, the FIPK kits don't flow all that great. Even if it's not a big gain, for $100 if it will pick up any power I would go that way if you are looking to change your setup. You can always sell the FIPK kit if someone else wants it. But to shorten it up, if it were my car, I would go with a lid.

on the camaro, the lid with some sort of ramair (ssra or ftra) i think would be better, not to mention cleaner looking.
the hood of the car just seems to close to the intake to really make it beneficial. now if you had something like the Ultra Z hood...different story.
it seems that intake is better suited for the WS6 style hood...where the nose scoops allow for better air flow

i would have to agree. the performance differences are slim to none(most likely none). i have a clear air lid and love the way it looks. And some people have the custom painted lids that look great. It would defintely make the engine bay look much cleaner.

The reason that hole is cut in the bottom is to allow air flow from under the car to reach the air filter.
Either way, you will not be able to use that piece of metal with an SLP lid. You'll need the factory radiator support, otherwise the lid will have nothing to attach to.

I just recently changed from this setup this week to an slp lid and airbox setup. To me, it looks a lot neater and cleaner. and it seems like you would get slightly better performance(though probably not noticeable) with a lid because that air is staying trapped in there where with the fipk its just that filter laying there.

First car I bought had the fipk on it. It was always very diry but I think it was because it was actually pulling in air from all sides. Either way it stayed on the car until I sold it. Mine was also cut from the bottom but it wasn't hacked up. It looked like it came that way originally. I don't think you would see a noticeable difference but if a clean setup is what you are after then swap it out.
