Default Guys with 853 comes inside

Hey im still up in the air about nitrous or cam only. But i have decided that im NOT going with head for awhile so!!! Im wondering what you guys that are still running factory 853, are doing with cam only at the track ET wise? I have sen alot of fast cam only cars but alot of them have 243 heads.

12.5 on a 2k launch. Obvisouly has 11's in it. Had to go easy on 10 bolt bc I was 90 miles away. Once I get a rear should see mid 11s easily. I'm going with stock 243s soon and should pick up 15 to 20 at the wheels. If your on a budget pick up stock 243s

Ok keep them coming guys. Im running 12.0's now wanting to add a cam or nitrous. Im sure i can pull off a 10 second passes with the gas but like to have the power all the time and the sound of the cam to boot. Ik now im probably not goinng to get a 10 scond pass witha cam but wondering how cloase with 853 and cam only i can get. I still have gears, ram air to do as far as bolt on's.

this is a good article. haider saba (fantaz28) on here was featured in gm-hightech awhile back ran 10.90's using stock 853 heads but swapped out stock valves with manley valves and patriot gold springs and ran a big cam. he did though have a th400 and a 12 bolt but nothing too radical motor wise. good luck.

Thats a very good right up there. Got me thinking about a valve job now. Bad thing is i just had the damn driver side header off removing on of my manifold bolts. . But if i pull the head how much do stock 243's usually run?

Anywhere from 400 to 600. Check out the classifieds on here. Also look for 799 series head. Same specs as the 243s just the older model.

I thought the 799 was the truck head? I was under the impression it had the same intake runner design but was a bigger chamber. Is that incorrect?

thats correct. the 799 head will lower your compression so if youre stayin n/a youll def want the 243s
