Default Where to measure to know how much milled?

Hey, I thought I remembered reading in here that there is some known distance on the outside of heads that can be measured to know how much there have been milled. Does anyone know where this is at?

Thanks!

Called Texas speed - they said measure from base of the bolt above exhaust manifold to deck. I tried to measure on car and got 1.653 on 5.3l heads. Anyone (Especially TSP) know how much it has been milled and what my cc is with 2.04 and 1.575 valves?
