map sensor & 6010
had my laptop hooked up to my msd in my camaro w/5.3 when trying to view rpm, timing and map pressure. my map pressure stays 14.7 all the time like its not working but everything else is. i have a 2000 corvette map sensor, and msd is set for 1bar. could it be a 3bar? its hooked up to the vac port on m victor jr. intake behind carb. help!!! ps i am running it w a chip in for now and i was just monitoring.

There's a way to test your MAP to see what BAR it is (I don't know it offhand), but the red line should move some regardless. Keep in mind that 14.7 is actually "0" or atmospheric and anything to the left of that is vacuum, so your MAP is apparently not working. Do you have it setup in the program? Is it wired correctly?

Hook a hand vac pump up to it and see if it responds. you might be able to borrow one from your local parts store. they are commonly used to bleed brakes.
Either that or try borrowing a different sensor off your daily driver.

map is just a tool to control timing off vacume, or lack of, has nothing to do with the fuel source
i have found it takes aprx 2" of vacume to pull down 1 psia of map
(example, if you have around 14"s of vacume, and lets say 14 psia map pressure, you would read aprx 7 psia on the map screen) at WOT, tech all vacume is gone, and you would read 14.7 psia, plus any boost, lol
my guess is the chips dont have map in them, just use the timing graph, but i could be wrong-are you just using the map graph
i kind of wondered what would happen if the map sensor failed, what happens to the timing

If you look at the instructions that came with your 6010, one of the pages has the timing curves listed for each pill. You can see that ALL OF THEM have some vacuum advance built in. That is the map curve. It gives the number of degrees and at what PSIA it will be. If you don't have the instructions, go to their web site. As I recall, (I don't have mine at hand), all of them have around 6*-7* except #6 which has 4* (don't hold me exact). If you're monitoring, click on the 3 dials down in left corner to maximize them. Makes it easier to watch. If the dial isn't moving, there is either a bad sensor or no vacuum at that port or your plug isn't connecting.
