we bought a jack from autozone, thing failed and the car dropped onto a jackstand.

here's the kicker: we went and returned it today and the manager actually told us that 1 out of 6 of those duralast jacks fail.... hmmm and they still sell them knowing that. :ripped:

Good thing you didnt get hurt.. But if you did, Duralast could of bought you a new house. 1 out of 6 is ridiculous.

All Duralast crap is made in China. So is the Big Red stuff at Pep Boys. Even Craftsman is chinese crap now. It's getting harder and harder to find decent tools.

They make those jacks in different colors and brand, but they are all the same. They're all shit. Mine came from Pep Boys but it's the same jack as the one you returned (different paint/badging)... I stopped using it a long time ago.

Scary shit man, that means one out of six idiots that are either too lazy or ignorant to use a jack stand will be seriously injured or killed.

I bought a 3 1/2 ton jack from Kragen, Proxone I think is the brand (orange/black), had it for about 6 months now, not the fastest lifting jack, but its durable and has worked well on numerous occations already. Kragen had a great deal on this jack with (2) 3 1/2 ton jack stands and a creeper so I jumped on it.

I have never got under a car that only had a jack holding it up. Change a tire, maybe do the brakes (with the wheel under the rocker panel btw). If someone is that careless to actually get under it with only the jack :eyes: Sucks to be them when the car falls on their head. Never trust a jack when it could hurt or kill you

I hate how a company can sell a product like this without a penalty

Just consider it Autozone's effort to clean the gene pool...we really could use the help!

On another forum, I made a comment to that effect in a "a friend of a friend died when his jack failed while he was changing the oil on his car" thread on another forum. People got pissed off at me and the thread got locked when other people started arguing with each other and saying I don't know shit... LOL. Apparently I know enough to work on a car without dying!

I got one of the aluminum jacks from Costco it has worked on more than a few different vehicles for a few years now. The first one i bought, i had to take back because it wouldnt budge the front end of my lightning (obvious flaw), but the one i have now has been perfect.

I agree I have had my $69.00 costco jack for 7 years and it's great. If you keep the receipt you can pretty much take it back whenever.

Yea, I bought a Proxone engine stand from Kragen, and so far it's still holding the engine up. Welds looked ok.
