Default I know, another help me with tire size thread...

So I picked up some new rims, 18x9, and I'm currently looking for some new tires. Yes, I've already searched the forum and used the tire size calculator and that's where my question arises. When using the tire size calc. in the sticky, it shows that a 275/40/18 is closer to stock than a 275/35/18. But when looking at what most people run on an fbody, they run the 35 series. Just curious if there's any reasoning behind it, or just a preference. And if it matters, the three tires I'm down to are the nt555's, BFG G-Force ss a/s, or some Cooper Zeon 2xs.

Also, I was planning on running the 275's all the way around, if there's anyone running that combo (275/40/18) I'd like to hear the feedback.

-Thanks, Brandon.

Not true, the 275/35 is a 25.6 inch tall tire, whereas, the 275/40R18 is a 26.7. Stock is 25.7.

Ok, so I went back to the website to check the stats again, and I figured out what was wrong. I was using the 1010tires websites tire calc. b/c I'm away at college right now and couldn't remember the exact size of my tires. My car's the Z/28 with 16's and when using their calc there's the base camaro, Z/28 w/55 series tires, or the 17's. I choose the Z/28 w/55's and I think that's where I went wrong.

I also did the comparisons again, but this time using the dimensions it gives for 17's and you guys are right, the 35 series is closer. So I'll be going with those now, good thing I came on here to make sure, that website could have bent me over with the 40 series haha.

Just curious, the dimensions it shows for the Z/28 model are a 235/55/16, did that ever come on our cars?

Thanks again for saving me from the $600+ mistake lol.

Yep, 275/40/18's have the same SIDEWALL height as a 275/40/17 (obviously), but the wheel is an inch bigger so it will make the over all diameter 1" taller.

Yes they did. I believe you could order the Z with the stock 16 inch wheels and 235/55's or with the performance 16 inch tires that came with the 3.23 axle ratio (which were the 245/50's).

i had 18'' z06 wheels all around with 35 series and i didnt like them. there was no sidewall at all i hated it. i had 275/35/18 all around and replaced them with all 275/40/18 to me it looked better. if my car was lowered the 35 series would have looked good but i like some side wall on the tire.
