Re: 427 build up, need suggestions on resleeved block
hey,
just in case you might want more options
i've just ordered a machined darton sleeved block from cartek 4.126 bore. they've had great success so far, and dave and julio definately know what's up.
i hope to assemble things in May...once the machine work is done and i have it in my hands, i will post some pics for you guys..

I would give ARE a call. They can get you a resleeved block. They are also a Diamond Pistons dealer.
Thanks,

To my knowledge right now the Darton-sleeved block is the way to go. It presents a nice balance of strength and cost. It appears that several of our sponsors are now offering this option.
Whatever you do don't pinch pennies on the block. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: 427 build up, need suggestions on resleeved block
Who has thoroughly tested one of the Darton sleeved blocks like LPE and Cartek sell? I keep hearing they have been extensively tested but I have yet to hear of one car that even has one in it, let alone what horsepower it has been proven with.
As for fastest times and most amount of horsepower through a resleeved block, I think I would have to go with ARE on this one. They ran 9.24 in their C5 with over 800rwhp and 8.92 with their Camaro SS with probably closer to 1000rwhp. Both of these engines have been torn down after a season of racing at this power level and there were no sleeve issues whatsoever. I think those numbers, along with many other fast resleeved-LS1 customers of theirs like GeorgeC, definitely speak to their reliability.
I also believe ARE's block comes fully machined and bored to any desired size for ~$2200 which is quite a bit less expensive than the un-machined, un-proven (in my opinion) new Darton Sleeved blocks.
Also, ARE's sleeves are built by Darton for only ARE.
I do not want to start any type of war on here between tuners, but all too often I see people stating unclear facts as to what has been proven and what hasnt, so I felt I had to state a couple actual facts that relate to power and 1/4 mile times on resleeved blocks.

Re: 427 build up, need suggestions on resleeved block
Can't comment on blocks from other companies. My ARE 436 has performed as advertised. Which is to say, no issues at all related to the block. There are a number of these engines out there, and they all seem to be doing fine.
The days of difficult customer service, and perhaps variable quality at ARE seem to be long past. Wade has been very responsive in all sorts of ways, and the engine just runs like a train.
My goals were similar to yours: longevity at road race events, and on the street, rather than max power for the drags. So far, I've gotten what I aimed at.

Re: 427 build up, need suggestions on resleeved block
I think that either would be a good choice.
I chose ARE, because I have confidence in the ability of the block to handle extreme abuse.
Good luck in your decision.

427 build up, need suggestions on resleeved block
I have finally laid out all of the plans for my 427 build up. But when it comes to picking which block to use I am a little lost. Right now I am looking at 4.125 bore LS6 block. The 2 company's that I am looking at buying from are both sponsors on this board. But I am a little unsure which one to go with. One is considierably cheaper than the other but doesnot provide any block prep. I would have to send the block out to be bored and honed. The other is much more expensive but I would just have to tell them what bore size I wanted. I have also heard rumors that one of them has had trouble with thier blocks sealing (is there any truth to that)?
If you havent guessed I am talking about ARE and MTI. I am not interested in hearing about cam and head combos, I am having someone else do that work. But who has seen or dealt with resleeved block from either co.
I could really use some insight and would like to make the absolute best informed desicion I can.
TIA <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

this is gonna turn into a war <img border="0" alt="[shoot]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" />
just do a search and read what customers have thought, also check the corvette forum.
MTI got my vote, i jut feel 100 times better about spending that much money when i have no doubts about it breaking (excellent customer service & warranty)
also it seems that one of them consistently has better track times <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
