Default Can I get temp. tags when buying from an out of state individual?

Here my situation, I just picked up a CTS-V from a guy in IL. He wants to keep the plates to put on his next vehicle. The problem is he has a lien on the vehicle so I have to wait for the title to come in (2-3 weeks), then go to to tax office and get my TX plates. He wants his IL plates soon, and it's part of the deal I agreed on to fedex him his plates when I made it back to Houston. Can a dealer give me a one month Temp tag for a small fee? Just need a plate I can run with till the title comes.

the DMV can selll you a 30-day temp plate. i had to do that when i was getting my 3rd gen ready for the road and it had no existing plates on it because i got it out of state. i had to drive it around while getting it fixed up so it could pass emissions. you cant get a real plate until after you get an inspection sticker... but you gotta be able to drive it to the inspection place.

you can get a temp plate for it. just go to teh tax office where you would get the registration. you'll need proof of insurance and they'll issue you a 30 day temp plate. (i think its $25 iirc) i had to do the same thing when i bought my SS from a guy in Kansas. (guy kept the plates when i bought the car from him)

You don't go to the DMV. You go to the county tax office.

And the proof of insurance needs to be exactly for that vehicle. Just your insurance card listing your other vehicles will not work.

Payment must be made only in cash. No checks or cards.
