Rubber Mallet.

Maintain a steady upward pressure with your hand like you were trying to pull it off anyway. Take a rubber mallet and gently pop it on the ends. Make sure not to drop it when it comes loose.

You can bump it on the sides and get it to wiggle also. Once it starts to wiggle you can just work it off without the hammer.

make sure you have ther side bolts out. I have a soft jaw kanit twist clamp I use as a spot to use some slight upward action with a soft hammer. You can get fancy with some brass or wood, on the bay to bay breathing window pockets. To pry up gently, if ther really stuck.

I think GM has a Jtool for this. And kent more, and goldsing, have a puller too. Looks like a corkswrew

You can take two long 3/8 extensions and start them into the bolt holes, then squeeze them together, wiggle and pull up. If you will be working with very many buy the Thompson automotive tool it's well designed and easy to use.

I just put a big prybar under them and gave a quick tap and they pop right loose. No special tool needed.

Default main caps

Thanks for tip on removing side bolts. I can stop hammering on it and using slide hammer. Dah!!! Not the best mechanic.

Can also take the long main bolts 90% out of the hole, then squeeze and rock back and fourth while pulling up.

Oh lord.

That's almost as bad as the guy who hooked a come-along to his camshaft because he never held the lifters up with dowels.
