Will you know at start up if you have too much lifter preload?
As the title states, I measured for pushrod length via the EOTC method. After taking measurments, it turns out I can reuse my 7.4 pushrods. I have 62cc LS2 heads, GM MLS gaskets, and LS7 lifters. I thought I would need atleast 7.375 pushrods. Will I be able to tell when I start it up if I have too long of a pushrod?

I have recently done the same LS2 heads, MLS head gaskets and 228R cam, but I am using the CTSV lifters. I measured my PR length with a comp cams PR checker with stock rockers and came up with 7.41" at .060" preload. I will go with 7.4" at .050" preload...I read somewhere that the LS7 lifter is different that stock LS1 lifters...

I am going through the same thing as you with the same set-up, but I addad a 230/230 cam. Started with a 7.425" @ 1.75 turns after preload - too much causing the "sewing machine" noise while cruising. Down to a 7.375" @ 1turns - too short causing tapping at light rev). Just installed 7.4" @ 1.375 turns last night and hope to start it Thursday night.
I really didn't notice a problem until I put it on the street. All these motors will have start-up noise and some minor noise until break-in. Mine just seemed to be excessive so I'm trying a few different pushrod to see if it makes a difference. If you need a different size PM me, I have a few different sets for sell as you can see.

H'ville Ta, one turn past preload should be good. Maybe you damaged something when you had it 1 3/4 past preload. That seem to be way too much IMO.

I have'nt started my motor yet, but I'm using Yelle Terra rockers and Morel lifters. I followed Terra's instructions and got my final torque at approx. 280* (3/4 turns) after zero lash. Stock rockers and lifters may require different settings. I have built many SBCs and BBCs (this is my first LSX) and all were setup with 1/2 to 3/4 turns after zero lash. I don't see any reason to change it in this application unless instructed too.

I'm using the comp cams checker. 7.375's are causing tapping at light throttle as well. I'm going to go back to the 7.4's.
My setup is a 233/239 TSP Cam, PRC Stg 2.5 heads, stock Rocker arms, LS7 Lifters
The checker is tight, but I can still rotate the pushrod checker at 11 turns (7.425 @.60 Preload for the LS7 Lifters)@ 10 Turns (7.375) it's a little loose. I just ordered 7.400's. I'll report back once I've got them installed.
