Default Finally Got me an LS1 2002 Z28!

Silver like my old LT1.. RIP.. 2002 Z28 6spd with 70k miles. Bought it stock minus a flomaster muffler and SLP K&N air filter. First mod I have done is descreen MAF and now i'm looking for a cheap but decent looking LID to put on it and then headers to come after that. I'm so excited I've wanted an LS1 for so long and now I've finally got it. And i'm paying every penny for it. I'm going to miss my LT1, but this thing is my baby now. Suggest some free mods for me to do! and other cheap power adders! Thanks guys, it's good to finally be an LS1 owner Here are some pics of My new car, old car, and my dad's car. Sister soon to be an LS1/LT1 owner also Camaro family!!! First picture is my new 02' Z28 and my old 97' Z28 that was just sold. Then another pic of my new 02 Z, and then a pic of me and my dad's camaro's. His is a 99 Z28 6Spd.

Very cool. I'd suggest

SSRA $200
SLP lid $90
P&P TB $65
Pacesetter Coated Headers with off road y-pipe $600ish
Mail order tune from Frost $125

Should give you a good 350ish rwhp or more. Good for high twelves on streets or low 12's on DR's

Why do people still descreen the MAF? Uhg.

Good buy, though, that's cool.

Because you don't need it, that's why.

descreening the MAF it retarded and throws false readings into the computer and is real bad when tuning, any tuner can tell you that, i would not take it out, just my 2 cents

I think common sense can tell you this is not a true statment. Descreening the maf will not cause it to read wrong.

The maf reads the AMOUNT that passes threw it the screen is infront of the sensor, so removing it will only do one thing. Make airflow less restrictive.

Anytime EXTRA air or LESS air goes threw the maf it sends the info to the computer, the cumputer calculates the amount of air, then based on the air/fuel ratio it has been tuned for, will add that amount of fuel to compensate.

little bit more more air, makes a little bit more fuel and more fuel and more air means more power

If a tuner told you this it was cause he had no idea what he was doing with the tune to begine with and needed something to blame it on instead of himself.

taking the screen out wont do much, maybe net 1 or 2 hp on the dyno if your lucky.

going from high to low 12's with DR's? never unless you're also adding a stall. anyways, try searching "free mods". that will give you what you're looking for, or go to installuniversity.com. nice looking car, have fun

Well if your thinking that taking the screen out of your maf is better, then just go ahead and remove your air filter while your at it. I swear man some people are retarded. Like its even restricting it enough to make it worth removing. you wanna get more air through there then keep your filter clean. As soon as something goes through there and disrupts one of the diodes you'll then say "damn." I know a lot of really good tuners that are reputable and they DONT tune cars with tampered mafs, also if your going to correct someone at least know how to spell. Its begin not begine. There's my $ .02. On another note, great buy man. Really nice car.

The screen isnt there to block debris from entering your engine or anything else. What it is there for is to straighten the air so the sensor can accurately read the amount of air which is what it is designed to do. Anybody who thinks the MAF will work better without the screen is dumb. The screen however does take up room, so without it, yes the MAF can flow more air. Is that worth the trade off of your MAF not reading correctly? Thats up to you. Mine is descreened and I know it gives my tuner a hard time sometimes.

Never huh? I have kept an eagle eye on the 12 second club forum for over one year now. All the guys who have full bolt ons and a tune with street tires run around 12.6-13.0, and guys with the same set ups but with Drag radials or slicks are running flat 12's to maybe 12.4. If you need I can pull up countless threads from the 12 second club proving this.

I don't think anyone argues descreening will make the maf work better. But just because something doesn't exactly make your car run better, doesn't mean it won't give you more power. Hell, take a cam. Might make the car run choppy, run funny or kill your mpg, but it will give you more power. That being said, I really feel it is hit or miss. I've heard from a very select few people that when they descreened their maf their car started acting funny. Most say car still runs great. My brother and I both descreened ours and everything is good. No change in mpg or street manners.
