I think the thermostat housing is different.

you mean like ls1 style thermostat housing vs. the separate thermostat from the housing.

maybe.. but the housings look the same on the outside.

thats not a significant difference, actually i'd prefer the later model as iv'e bought a thermostat that fits that kind.

Probably just the part number. GM changes/updates their numbers from time to time.

Also, all the late model N/A (LS2/3/7) Y-car and V water pumps are interchangeable if that helps any.

this is my pump and im pretty sure its the orgininal from 04. i cant find either of the two part numbers above on it.

how call me crazy, but this looks like the latest most modern style.. which would be the lower (ls2) number.

if thats the case what the heck is going on?

I used a LS7 wp on my 05 v, worked just fine.

im not worried about what will or wont work. i'm pretty verse'd in that.

im wanting to know the differences.

if you buy a complete unit water pump with t-stat and housing.. of course it will work.

one flow more or less than another?? belt position?? what type thermostat?? and such.

ive discovered some more info, that apparently gm came out with.. and switched to the 'separate' style thermostat in late 2004 and began retrofitting gto's (and apparently caddy v's) immediately

so its possible i got a late 04 model.

I still have my original w/p that I just replaced on my 05...I'll grab pics of that when I get a chance.

the number above, was correct for my car... which leaves me to believe that the 17592 number is the short lived ls2 water pump with ls1 thermostat housing, which was for certain on 04 gto's.

Is this a higher output version from the 01-04 LS1/LS6 motors? My water pump is leaking and im looking for a HO water pump but cant find one for LS2/LS3/LS7. Anyone else have any luck?

If you are not on a budget, look into a Meziere. I have had one on my V for about four years with no issues.

Never dynoed it before and after, as did the WP upgrade at same time I swapped motors. I have heard some people get 5-8 RWHP increase, but I also think Katech debunked this claim. The Mez is expensive, but should last a lifetime, and you can get it in real kewl colors. If you are on a budget, or hoping to buy other mods, I would consider the stocker.

i bought mine brand new from ebay.

the electric pump flows more at low rpm and LESS at high rpm. you decide when you need it to work best.

i have stock w/p on my caddy AND on my t/a

I dynoed back to back on my 346 H/C. I picked up 10rwhp and 6rwt.
