ATI super damper keying question
Ok I know someone here is running an ATI super damper. So I have my block & rotating assembly @ the machine shop.
I asked the machine shop to key the crank for the balancer while everything was apart. I dropped the balancer off w/ him so he could measure it up for a key.
He is saying that the snout of the pulley reaches all the way back to the key that drives the oil pump & timing chain. Is this possible?
This is ATI super damper 917246. It's the standard 7.5" dia w/ a steel shell.
This is also on a vette.

Yeah, change your balancer to a part #917278 and you be fine. F and Y body ATI hubs are different.

Thanks guys, that is what i thought.
I think the machine shop was just holding the damper flush to the crank and isn't taking into account that the bolt is recessed about an 1" down in.

yea, but they were pinning them w/ the ATI kit that uses the round dowel pin for a stock balancer setup.
So Monday I will give him a call & ge this all fixed up.
Thanks again for the input

I pinned mine with the ATI kit. The pin ends up near the end of the crank. Very nice setup by the way. If they take some time to set up the alignment, you can get the degree marks on the damper pretty close to correct. I use this when working on the motor now by finding TDC of #1 and then as I rotate the motor I know when the next piston is at TDC by the damper. It has proven to be very convenient for things like rocker arm installation, valve spring swaps, etc.
