Default LS2 LS7 lifter failure

I had a LS7 lifter fail it wiped out my cam, the shop pulled the heads cam and lifter said the the lifter sleeve guide was OK no damage. installed new cam and Comp Cam lifters. I have two questions what would cause the lifter to fail and now the engine makes sewing machine noise from the side of the engine that had the failure. Oh and the water pump went bad and the rear main seal is out after the repairs.

Too much preload or not enough???? How many miles? Weak springs causing valve float will beat the crap out of a lifter too. Just curious what size cam?

Where did you get those lifters. Those look like old first generation LS1 lifters that have no support on the top and bottom of the rollers.

Take a look at the attached pic. Your looks like the one on the right which is an old design. The new LS7 replacements are the ones on the left. Plus you probably wouldn't be using 7.400 pushrods.

If you closer the his pic it's the newer supported design. The metal has broken off.

Got the car back new cam is Comp Cams 281LLR H13 231/247 duration @ 0.50, .617/.624, 113LSA with Comp Cams lifters, I hope this will last longer. the same springs were used so if its a weak spring, I guess we will see.
