Default MSD 6012 question

I am in the process of building a foxbody carb 6.0. I just ordered my 6012 and was wondering if anybody having problems with the unit? Reason I ask is a couple of guys that I do business with said they've had trouble out of theres. One minute it would start and the next minute it wouldnt. One of them even went to the HEI front mount unit. I just hope I didnt go wrong buying it so fellas please chime in if you had luck or not with them.

when i got mine the car ran fine. drove it on the street for a bunch of miles. first time i went to the track made about 5 passes and the box took a **** on me. returned it and got a new one and has worked great ever since. i order mine through summit i believe. so if anything goes wrong within a year youll be fine theyll send you a brand new box and harness.

i have had mine for almost 2 years(6010), so far been bullit proof-i know there was some problems with the 6010's (24 relucter) with cranking RPM's
i think around 150 rpms was the target
maybe they did some upgrading on the 6012, but i wouldnt be affraid to use it
i guess anything can fail, and some user error can accure also-like using the wrong box for the crank, aftermarket crank has the relucter on wrong, etc-add enough crap to a car, more of a chance something could go wrong, lol

The only problem I had with my 6012 was my own fault. When I initially installed the box I drew my power from a source that only put out like 6.5v or so ( I think it was one of my old ignition wires). That 6.5v gave the box enough juice to start and run but once it got above like 2 grand it would break up. Once I fixed my mistake I have had no problems with the box, almost 2 years now. Good Luck!

Thanks guys, makes me feel alot better. Yea I think they had the 6010's when they first came out and one of them has a stroked 6.0 so Im sure its a aftermarket crank.

They're a lot more sensitive to reluctor wheel placement than the stock PCM, if it's not centered, the car won't run...
