Default 2000 WS6 almost cought fire! help:mad:

so my dad has a 2000 trans am ws6 and he's had it since new. its all stock and only has 28K miles on it. he turns it on atleast once a month and last month it didnt want to turn on and I seen that hes got no fuel pressure and the pump dosent prime like its always done. so I tell him that the fule pump is bad. he takes it apart and finds the wire's that come from the pump to the connector is all burnt and melted. (wire's from inside the tank) what should I do about it? fix it and forget it or what, because its kinda crazy that that would even happen has anyone had a similar problem.

pump going bad could cause a high enough resistance to burn some wires
