Default ls1 IS THIS NORMAL????

Ls1 blowing smoke

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay so here is the story; please give any/all advice.

Looking at a 2000 trans am with a built bottom end and 5.3l heads. Has a beck sheetmetal intake and cam. Exhaust is hooks headers no cats to muffler. Radiator is only filled with water.

So i went to look at the car, it started right up no problems. Some exhaust leaks under the car and a little from between the headers and heads. It blows smoke that disepates into the air like a normal car that is cold, but it keeps doing so even when the car warms to operating temperature around 200. Car does not run hot even when idleing for 15 minutes with electric water pump off. Car is dumping alot of fuel with 120lb injectors the gauge on the fuel rail is reading 60psi. Car has been sitting over the last 8 months but shouldnt it not have so much exaust smoke coming out of it?

ALSO THE AIR FUEL GAUGE READS 13-15 AT IDLE

how old is the fuel? if its 8 months old that could be an issue. also why do you have 120lb injector and a sheetmetal intake? is the vehicle boosted? theres alot of variables left un answered more information is needed. o, and what color is the smoke?

My cammed LS1 blows some smoke at idle.. Its not blue per say.. it is like blackish, blueish color..

But anyways my valve seals are bad, the stock rockers cannot handle the ramp rate of the cam.. Solution is roller rockers

120lb injectors sounds ridiculous to me personally also. smoke is blueish white but it disepates into the air. any chance it might be a head gasket? Something about the smoke not going completely away when at operating temp and pushing pedal so it is at 2k rpms. there is a puddle of water under exhaust tip after idleing for a little. this has no blackish color in it at all. not boosted, what else do you need to know?

With that said, head gasket gets my vote.. Not really a big deal, couple hours to fix and around 150 bucks.

I'm thinking this also I will run by everyone, the car ran out of gas while I was looking at it, plus it has been sitting. Could it be water/crap in the bottom of tank?

Also if this car was running on race fuel and I put 93 in it because there is no place around to buy race fuel at, would I do any damage as long as I keep the car under 3k rpms?

I'm just throwing this out there....... Seems like you are buying a car with a whole lot of things you are unsure of. I mean it sounds like this car was a pretty extreme build, are you sure its something you want to spend your money on and not know exactly what is done?

So you are buying it and planning to make 4x your purchase price by parting it out?

Good luck. Sounds like there are a lot of issues with the car. Sure you can sell the intake, EWP, and a few other things. Again, good luck.

sounds like the car was blown at some point with all of those mods. Be cautious... sounds like the car may be ragged. This isn't going to be your daily is it?
