Stereo & Electronics - PAC SWI PS Help PLEASE?

Hey guys just got my PAC SWI PS for my Sony Xplod MEX-BT3700U in my 98' Firebird. I have the connectors and everything I need, I just don't know what to do exactly. I plugged in the wires that came with the adapter into the adapter and I know I need to connect that end of the adapter to the steering wheel controls. On the other end, I need to connect like 2 wires. I know this sounds noob, but I know NOTHING about stereos. Here are some pictures. On the Pac website, it says this:

The SWI-PS 's wire color we are going to use is Green. This is the Green wire on the SWI-PS , not the vehicle!
The other wires on the SWI-PS , white, yellow, orange and blue wires are not used for your Pontiac (Firebird)

This leaves you with a Red, Black and two loop wires. These wires will be discussed down below.

I see the green wire they're talking about, but I don't know what to do with the green, red and black wires. Here are some pics to show you around the setup.

So yeah. I'm trying to do this myself so I can learn a little, AND because I spent about 50 on this and everyone else is charging $45 to do that, so I say :flipbird: that, $100 is not worth steering wheel control. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

You only have to connect 3 wires. Power, ground, and the control wire for the steering wheel controls (the green wire on the PAC unit). That black plug you are thinking is the correct plug is actually for a factory AUX input such as the rear mounted CD changer. All the wires you need are the ones going into your existing headunit.

Here is the info that you need to get this working
Connect the SWI-PS 's Green wire to Pin 13 or 14 (Dk. Blue, Lt. Green or Violet/Black) of the above connector.


Black wire: Connect the SWI-PS 's black wire to chassis ground. This is usually a black wire on the aftermarket wire kit.
Red wire: Connect the SWI-PS 's red wire to a switched +12volt wire. This is usually a red wire on the aftermarket wire kit.

In the link provided use the connector as a reference and locate the pin with the steering wheel control wire, which is either pin 13 or pin 14. The connector is the factory connector that goes into the aftermarket connector for the new head unit. Then connect the red wire to the red wire of your harness and the black wire to the black wire on the harness. Than follow the programming instructions for the pac swi-ps.

Damn I thought I had this figured out but now I'm not so sure. The picture they use in those instructions is the factory connector that connects to the Sony connector. But further down they say:

Am I connecting the PAC SWI PS to the aftermarket stereo wires or to the factory wires?

I tapped it to the red and black wires on the harness itself, so if I remove it my dash wires aren't jacked up.

Red /black /green - it's simple once ya figure it out. Helps to have an extra person when programming it, or write it down in order of buttons etc when doing it, easy to get
mixed up.. But I had a lot to drink when I reinstalled mine

Connect the power and ground to the aftermarket harness. On my grand prix I cut the steering wheel control wire from the factory harness and connected that to the pac wire. I left some wire on the factory harness just in case I ever want to hook up the factory radio. I taped it off at the back of the harness to isolate the wire from anything.
