Default Did LQ4/9 head bolt questions...

Are LS1/6 and LQ4/9 cylinder head bolts the same? Did the LQ4/9 blocks switch to all short bolts in '04 like LS1/6 blocks did?

Another question...

LS1 heads + 6.0 block = needs 6.0 gaskets?
6.0 heads + LS1 block = needs 5.7 gaskets?

I always match the gaskets to the bore. Even though the 6.0L heads have a slightly larger chamber for the bigger 6.0L bore there is still going to be an edge there due to smaller bore cylinders whether it's part of the gasket or part of the sleeve.

I thought that would just burn the gasket...

If the gasket is MLS it's not going to burn it. The only thing mix matching parts like this is you need to make sure the compression part of the gasket is between the head and deck surface to provide a seal. Heck I'm probably going to use the LS3 gaskets on my 4.005" bore TFS235 head motor even though the LS3 gasket is 4.065" just so i can make use of the 5 layer gasket vs the 3 layer of previous years. Havent really decided yet.

After rethinking this situation a 6.0L gasket would probably need to be used since the bore is just over .100" difference between 5.7L and 6.0L. The head might not seal using the smaller bore gasket on a bigger bore head.

Would the 03 block be better in that case?

Better to have all one size (late block) for consistent torqueing, but it really makes no difference in the long run.
