What do you mean by one wire alternator my alternator from my TA has only one positive wire and in the plug it also has only one wire going it but it has all the prongs there but the harness only has 1 wire for it to plug into it.

I should added more details. I'm putting a 5.3 truck motor in a 1966 Chevelle. I have converted to carb so there is no engine swap harness being used. The 66 harness originally had a external regulator but I eliminated that by going to an aftermarket 1 wire alternator that was self regulated. Now I'm looking for something similiar for the 5.3.

i had a 69 chevey truck that i put a 89 350 in. what i ran into was that when i converted over to the intake system i did not have a harness to run the engine. so when it came time to do the alternator i had my local starter and alternator shop custom build me a self starting and self chargeing alternator. what that means is that u only have to have a positive wire and thats all... no need for the plug... it is very easy to use and works just as good as the rugular one with the positive and negative wire plug. it cost me about 125.00 for him to build it. but it was what i wanted. you might check with your local starter man to see if he knows how... i bet he does.

To run the regular alternator I think you just need the correct LS1 alternator connector with the exciter wire, then run voltage to it to tell it to charge. I just bought one after snapping the wire off by mistake:

I think I read the ECM sends 10v to the exciter wire, not sure if ~14v from the alternator output would be bad to hook up to this. Best to research it if you decide to go this route.

Thanks for the input. I work in a machine shop. I just might have to modify the 5.3 LS alternator bracket to accept the Gen 1 one-wire I've been using.
