Default Loud knocking sound

I've got my eye on this '99 H/C camaro which is in decent shape except for a problem with the m6. I drove it yesterday, when the pedal is released and in gear, there's a loud knocking sound coming from the transmission which increases with engine speed. Almost like a rod knock. When i pushed the pedal in though the noise stopped. The guy says a spring on the clutch popped off or something.... also said it was a z06 clutch... anyhow, any idea how much damage we're talking here and how much it'd cost to be fixed?

you can pick up a used tranny for 1500 or less.

I would assume something is f'd inside the transmission. Where in Texas are you and where is the car?

I'm in spring (NW houston), car is in conroe (small town about 15-20 minutes north).

I, too, concluded that something was f'd inside the transmission. The guy said he'd take 4900 for it though... it's in decent shape, some paint issues here and there. has some suspension work (sfc, torque arm, etc), z06 wheels, motor has 117k on it, but was supposedly rebuilt around 100k at pavlock performance (guy claims to have documentation for most of the work, i didn't bother to ask to see them) with stock bottom end, ported ls6 heads, and a mild cam i think, wasn't very loopy. car idled at around 1100.. everything besides the tranny seemed good. also said he had a dyno sheet showing 430 rwhp w/4.10s. the fucked tranmission noise and the 10 bolt sort of warded me off though.

I would expect to either have to put another used unit in the car or have that one repaired. If it needs an input shaft and cluster gear, its not going to be cheap to have it rebuilt. Morris Motorsports is in the Houston area and could handle a rebuild for you if you end up with the car.

If it needs an input shaft and cluster gear, probably looking at about $1500-1600 for a rebuild on your unit not including pulling it out or reinstalling it.
